Woodpecker started on the tree. After several weeks of trying to scare it off with balloons, noisemakers, stuff hanging from branches, and waving arms, he started attacking the wood frame of a casement window as well as the tree. Nothing seemed to deter him. I took the bells off and used the string on the owl to hang it between the casement window and the screen. The woodpecker showed up ONCE MORE, saw the owl, and has not been back even to the tree. I hung the second owl on a picture window that, over the years, has seen its share of birds hitting it. No birds have hit it since, and the owl is basically not noticed from inside. The bells did not go to waste - I put them in a small, heavy canvas bag for our kittens. Wins all around.

Seems pretty sturdy for what it is and price. Would not mind replacing it in a few years if it deteriorated. I liked that there was a grommet at the anchoring point so the attachment of a line seems secure. Bells are a nice touch. Hopefully they will prevent birds from trying to fly thru our screened porch as birds have done in the past. Second photo is of a previously visiting Red Tail Hawk, but we have also had Blue Jays and Black Birds damage or penetrate the screen. Red Tail Hawk flew out making another hole, but appeared uninjured as he flew away after resting in a nearby tree for awhile. I am hoping our "Guard Owls" at both ends will discourage birds from trying to fly thru the porch. So far it is working.

These are very lightweight plastic. I’ve had the first set about a month. They do seem to have helped with our bird situation. That stated, they come with something like a cross between a flimsy rubber band and a string to hang them by. Almost thread-like. It would last maybe a month in sun and weather. For my application, I hung mine by using a small steel mounting hook attached to the house, a key ring, and a heavy duty fishing swivel. They twirl in the wind as they’re designed to do and with my additions should last hopefully at least 6 months or so. I have no illusions about their longevity or the silver shiny coating on them surviving sunlight for long. I do like that they are light weight because if they were heavier they would likely tangle on the hook I used and not twirl. I think the motion of twirling and waving in the wind is the secret sauce. We’ll see. They are doing the job with a little help as described. They don’t look bad at all on the house and in fact are not really that noticeable.

This product may not be perfect, but it had helped a lot on my situation with invasive birds making a mess in my porch. These birds try to steal my dog's food, and in the process they leave my floor and fence full of bird crap. It has worked well with pigeons and some other dumb species, but the smart ones are difficult to deceive. Check out the photos, it's really funny. Perhaps birds in Costa Rica are too smart for this. But again, the situation has improved a lot, about 80% better than before. Update: Don't buy this product, is useless. Birds learn too fast that this is not a threat to them. During the first month only one or two birds were brave enough to came closer to my yard, but now I see almost 20 birds around this thing, and I'm talking about 5 different species. I'm really disappointed, the high rates made me think this was the best solution to keep the birds away, but I fooled.

Wish I could love it, but the strings are so cheap they all break after a month or so and you have to redo them with your own string or rubber bands

These are very effective I bought two and they are very visible through out our entire property for hawk protection.

My neighbors have missing vinyl siding on the side of their house that boarders my patio and entrance way. This missing siding makes an attractive roosting and nesting spot. Over the last few years the number of birds using this void (and numerous others voids on this unkempt home) has increased to the point that I have to duck to avoid being hit in the head by flying birds - not to mention having to regularly hose off bird droppings from my patio. I purchased these blinders to keep birds away from my patio and entrance way. I did not expect too much, but I have to say the change is dramatic! There has been a 95% decrease in the number of birds dive bombing me and my patio. I no longer see 15 or 20 birds perched in that void next door - only one or two at any given time now. It has only been a few days - but I hope these results continue. I hung both blinders from my rain gutters along my patio - about 15 feet apart. Today was not as windy as was in the first few days (the blinders were really twirling and the bells were ringing in the wind) - but there were still very few birds. Since I can't relocate my neighbors or their rundown house, these bird blinders turned out to be the next best thing.

Well, the birds around here obviously don't mind owls. I bought this to keep swallows from nesting above my door, and they built a nest anyway. They are endangered, so there is nothing I can do except wait for them to leave in the Fall. This didn't keep the birds from nesting near my door, nor messing on my car. :-( At this point, I don't know if it is the product or the birds, but it just did not work for me.

I really liked how lightweight these are and the elastic that comes attached to them for hanging. I wrapped two around my hammock stand on my apartment balcony and noticed a significant decrease in pigeon visitation! But the elastics snapped after not that long, not sure if it was due to heat or wind. Good news is it's a multipack, so I can hang more.

I know having Robins choose your home for their nest is good luck but after the babies flew away, the poop. My God. The poop. Took me forever to get off. I saw a second set of Robins eyeing the light and trying to build their nest there. So I bought this. Tied it beside the offending light of choice and no more bird trash or poop!

Had this hanging on my balcony for a month now and cleaning-up pigeon poo is a thing of the past - previously, almost everyday I had to clean pigeon poo off my balcony railing but not had to clean any off since hanging-up the owl. Because the owl hangs directly outside my living room window, the constant 'clinking' sound of the ball bearings every time the wind blew was too much but, I removed them (easily done) and it's now fine (and hasn't stopped it being a deterrent). No wear and tear showing yet, and good to have a spare. The packaging was ridiculously over the top (see image) and unnecessarily wasteful.

Fantastic, they have reduced the bird mess to a minimum. Well made and seem to be long lasting.

Trust me don’t bother
