You could rub it in your scalp however it's a bit oily. I was hoping it was more like a serum. Also, it has a VERY strong perfume/fragrance. So, order with caution.

Do you have to wash this oil out?

Yes. Leave in for hour or more. I use at night and wash out on the morning.
