Linda Ronstadt's Early Years
Good CD by Linda. Original records were recorded years ago, 70s maybe. But, the music stands the test of time.

Early Linda
Linda Ronstadt's salad days. On the last album of this trio her backing band was a group of no-names who ended up forming a little band called the Eagles. You might have heard of them. These are wonderful albums and well mastered.

Remastering not great
I have one of the albums on the cd.Linda's voice is washed out and instrumentation overbearing.

New Life for Three Linda Ronstadt Albums
BGO Records is a great British label that brings back albums/CDs that have long been unavailable. In addition they do a remastering of the original albums. In this case, BGO has given us a more than reasonably priced two CD set of the first three solo albums recorded by Linda Ronstadt. I have long treasured all three of these albums. The brilliance of the remastering cannot be overstated. To hear Linda singing these songs with the revitalizing remastering is a great pleasure. As an example, on the original release of "Silk Purse," her rendition of the Hank Williams classic, "Lovesick Blues," was marred by an annoying sound distortion near the climax of the song, as though the recording equipment could not stand up to Ronstadt's vocal power. That distortion is now gone. Of course, all of these albums came out before Ronstadt had hit it big and, thus, were not commercial successes. But as those of us who have been listening to Ronstadt for years know the work on these albums is equal to or sometimes even better than some of the more famous work of her career. "Silk Purse" contains "Long Long Time," the only solo hit of her early career. But pretty much everyone of the 31 songs on these three albums is a match for what would come later. You will find such gems as her take on Randy Newman's "Bet No One Ever Hurt This Bad" and her killer cover of Waylon Jennings's "The Only Daddy (Momma) That'll Walk the Line" as well as her cover of Jerry Lee Lewis's "Break My Mind." Mickey Newbury's "Are My Thoughts With You" is a must hear as is her emotionally powerful rendition of "Louise," the best cover of this oft-covered Paul Siebel song. No one has ever done "Rock Me on the Water" better than Ronstadt does it here. This is a really great offering by BGO, allowing us to hear these wonderful performances as they were meant to be heard.

A Preview of What Was to Come in this Singer's Illustrious Career
Hands down, these early solo albums are simply amazing. Silk Purse is a treasure that I am glad to have finally on CD. I purchased the album upon its initial release while a Freshman in college. Her delivery of "A Long Long Time" is still one of those songs that I love to just sit and listen. It never gets old and her vocals are crystal clear! This particular CD is very well re-mastered; not too heavy on the vocals sacrificing the orchestrations. And it wasn't remastered to create "more loudness" and a "flat sounding" CD. Overall - all three albums sound great. Her rendition of Jackson Browne's "Rock Me on the Water" is stellar! Worth the purchase.

THREE CLASSIC LINDA RONSTADT CD’s, REMASTERED
If you know these 3 albums already, then the only change is the excellent remastering, and extensive liner notes. If you are not familiar with these 3 albums, this is Linda’s solo country period. Mostly great songs, with Linda’s trademark vocals. The musicianship is very good, helped by a few future Eagles. They may not stand up as well to her later albums sonically, because of 50 years of advancements in the studio. But these are essential albums for any Linda fan.

HEARING THE EARLY VOICES OF HENLEY AND FREY IS A HISTORICAL TREAT !
This woman could always flat out sing ! Hearing the early years of Glenn Frey and Don Henley on background vocals was the real treat here. I always love to know the historical setting of an artist's recording from way back when. Any 70's Folk-Rock fan will love this collection.

Linda Ronstadt is great.
This is a first rate double cd from BGO Records. Linda Ronstadt first three albums all remastered and they sound very good. It comes in a jewel case. So, none of that cardboard case fear of damaging,or ripping it to spreads, just getting the discs out. There is an, over exhaustive, essay from John Tobler in the booklet that tells you all you need to know about the three albums, and some. This set is well worth purchasing and celebrates the early days of Linda Ronstadt illustrious career. Mr Tobler finishes his essay with the words Linda Ronstadt is great! And nobody can argue with that.

Early Linda before she went all MOR
I had these 3 albums when originally released on vinyl (many many years ago) but they got lost sometime between then and now so I was pleased to spot this package. They sound as good now as they did then, more basic than her later overproduced offerings and her voice is to die for. Wonderful!
