RMCE-TW2 True Wireless Adapter for Sound Isolating Earphones | True wireless Bluetooth 5 adapter with secure over-ear fit, charging case and fingertip controls for Shure earphones

The Shure RMCE-TW2 Bluetooth adapter(s) represent the pinnacle of Shure's efforts to create a wireless solution for their SE line of earphones. They address nearly all of the limitations of previous designs, most of which I have owned and used extensively, and add new capabilities which significantly increase the quality of the experience when using them. In fact, I would say that these are finally a Shure Bluetooth adapter worthy of the SE846 earphones to which they are attached. To provide a context for the many improvements made to the TW2, I will be comparing it to Shure’s previous BT1 and BT2 adapters with which I have extensive experience. It’s worth noting that the TW2 is a second generation product that looks identical to the first gen TW1, a product that was so plagued with operational issues and design limitations that I never bothered to test it out. Do not inadvertently purchase the TW1. Shure’s original BT1 Bluetooth adapter was just okay. It didn’t drive the SE846s to particularly high volumes, the battery didn’t last particularly long, and connection strength was weak. I eventually replaced the BT1 with the upgraded BT2, which had a better design and offered better battery life and more output. It was a good product but not perfect. Like the BT1, the BT2 would temporarily drop the connection to my iPhone at particular locations in my home or at my office—walking through the man door of my garage, for example. And if I put my iPhone in my front left pants pocket and twisted my body the opposite direction, the audio would temporarily drop out. This made raking the lawn a particularly annoying experience. I’m happy to report that the TW2s have resolved these issues completely. The Bluetooth connection has remained rock solid from the first time I turned them on; I’ve never experienced a single dropout. In fact, the range is so good that I can set my iPhone down and walk off to other parts of my home without experiencing any deterioration of the connection at all. And the sound output of these adapters is quite good. Much of my time listening to my SE846s occurs while I’m outside working on projects, doing landscaping maintenance, or snowblowing. While both the BT1 and BT2 were far more convenient than using a cord plugged into my iPhone, they both still presented a cord dangling from my neck which would inevitably get caught on something and rip an earphone out of my ear. The lack of cords on the TW2s completely eliminates this issue. Before trying them, I was a little concerned about the comfort of the new design. Would having the weight of two batteries behind my ears be annoying? As it turns out, I can hardly even tell I’m wearing them. A related area of improvement is the ability to operate the TW2s while wearing gloves. With both the BT1 and BT2, the controls dangled from the cord. Locating them while wearing gloves was a challenge. Pressing the tiny buttons was difficult if not impossible. The single large button on each of the TW2s is much easier to locate and press. (Not always easy but always easier.) And because the TW2s have built-in mics, I no longer have to stop what I’m doing, take off my gloves, and remove an earphone when my wife has a quick question. I can simply press the large button on either of the TW2s with my gloved finger and the built-in mics pause what I’m listening to and amplify her voice. This situation was such a pain point with the previous designs that this feature alone justifies the cost of the TW2s for me. The TW2s offer other advantages as well. Shure offers a very useful app that can update the TW2 firmware and load precision, customizable 4-band parametric EQ curves tailored specifically to the capabilities of your particular SE earphone model. (Some users may have noticed that I have yet to mention sound quality. The TW2s do seem to be at least a small step forward in this regard—they certainly aren't a step backward—but any really noticeable difference comes from tweaks to the parametric EQ in Shure’s PLAY app, something that wasn’t possible with the BT2.) The app also permits the customization of controls and prompts, a hugely useful capability that was absent from previous designs. And charging is wireless now. No more fiddling with a USB Micro-B cable—though this does mean that you must carry the somewhat large charging/storage case with you when you want to charge the TW2s. Finally, the phone experience. I don’t spend much time on phone calls but the experience has been excellent. The TW1, the gen 1 version of this product, was widely dinged because phone calls only came to one ear. That limitation is now gone. You can hear your caller in both ears. And my wife tells me the mic quality is excellent. With all of the improvements, there is very little that I feel the TW2 could do better. My only minor complaint relates to the lack of a battery status indicator. To be clear, I have yet to run into a battery life limitation. The TW2s seem to have excellent stamina. But there’s no simple way to tell how close I have come to exhausting them. The older BT1 and BT2 would announce the remaining battery life whenever they were powered up. “Eight hours remaining.” This was great. I always knew how long I had at the beginning of every listening session. That feature is gone. The only real way to know where you are in terms of capacity is to open the app and look at the tiny battery indicator which provides a percentage remaining but does not translate this into listening time. The bottom line is that I am absolutely delighted by my upgrade to the TW2 and recommend them to anyone using compatible Shure earphones. They’re awfully close to perfect and easily worth the price of admission.

I had been hesitant about getting true wireless earphones because of low battery lives that required charging cases, and fear of losing them of course. The Shure BT2 adapter I'd been using broke, and I was forced to look into their newest alternative, this TW2 adapter. The reviews were positive enough, especially with direct comparisons to BT2, that I placed an order despite the fairly high price tag for just an adapter. But I have to say, I've been pleasantly surprised by them so far! Pros: - The battery life is 8 hours (without need of the charging case), the same as BT2, and the case can give three more full charges. - It charges by USB-C rather than micro-USB, which is great for travel as I can use USB-C for everything now. - The charging case has a battery level indicator on the bottom that tells you how many full charges it can provide. - It's less likely that you'll lose them compared to most TWE's, since TW2 retains Shure's around-the-ear clip design, and they stay on my ears even if I need to pull them out to speak to someone. - The new environment mode is a cool feature to have, albeit with somewhat limited use. It mixes in outside audio from the mics on-demand so you can better hear your surroundings. It can be somewhat hard to hear voices over wind or crinkly jackets, so while it could be useful when walking through a busy area where you need to stay alert, you'll still want to take them out to talk. - The degree of customization possible in the app is appreciated. You can completely change the controls, add equalizer settings, adjust environment mode, and more. - Bluetooth signal strength and stability seems good with my Pixel 7. Sound quality is good with my SE425's, but I haven't noticed much of a difference in sound compared to BT2. Cons: - No support for multipoint connections, meaning TW2 can only be connected to one device at a time. Mine frequently connect to my laptop first when I want to use them with my phone, and then I have to manually connect in my phone's Bluetooth menu. BT2 could be connected to both simultaneously. It's a mild inconvenience, but the fact that Shure had this feature earlier & dropped it stings. - There is no way to charge the adapters without the case. If you lose the case, it must be replaced. - There is no way to charge the adapters in-use, which was possible with BT2. If you need to use them for extended lengths of time, like a long travel day, you'll want to use a wired cable. - The charging case is on the larger side, and a little less pocketable than other TWE cases. You should have no problem fitting it into a bag or a roomy jacket pocket. - I wish that the sound prompts were more customizable. The BT2 was more utilitarian with its prompts, using just beeps and voice clips. The TW2 uses musical cues for power on & off that I'm not too fond of. They can be turned off in the app, but then you have no indication at all.

I have been looking for something wireless to connect to my ier z1r and transforming it into a TWS. Yeah, it can be better with wired connections. But with TWS set up this way, there is no other buds that can beat it. For now, I am happy with this Shure adapters. The fitments is awesome, it disappeared once worn, even with glasses on. The stock case can easily accommodate any buds and fitting ier z1r better than I had hoped for. Long battery life and can do upto 44.1Khz in sampling rate which is CD quality. App is great with different sound effect and amazing EQ. Just like any other EQ, you adjusting it curves by lowering it below the 0 dB mark for better performances and avoid clipping. Even so, it can drive her z1r to amazing loudness. It also offers environmental mode which allows outside sounds and conversations to pass through. However, I have a hard time listening and conducting conversations still when having it on. The music can drawn out the conversations. I whish it could have a louder adjustment for environmental mode that what is. All in all, a great products that can bring you satisfaction

Weird title, but it does change depending on the iems you have. I used these with shures se 215 (mainly) and aonic 3s and the adapters dont change the sound (without eq), they make them more convenient to use iems. And at sub 200 dollars, these really do look like a big investment, but the features make the price look more reasonable. •Design + Comfort: These adapters are shaped pretty aggresively on the ear hook since shure assumes you'd use it with only their products or others using shures style of iems. Of course you can plug in any iem into these, as long as it uses an mmcx connector, anything else like 2 pins are gonna need an adapter to use these adapters. When using adapters (right angled or straight) with these on iems like the moondrop blessing 2 or Shuoer s12s, would change the comfort of these adapters and make it feel more unnatural and uncomfortable to use. And with the weight of the controls resting in any other area of my ear that wasnt designed to be rested on in the first place, would make these painful to use after an hour or two in those cases. •Controls + Features: The controls are simple: single, double and triple button presses to do whatever you want, which will always be superior over touch controls. What helps make these adapters more unique (aside from them being true wireless) and superior over most true wireless iems is the environment mode thats included with these things (that have the ambient mode included). In the app, you can adjust how loud/quiet you want the environment to be so you can hear your surroundings better and the clarity of this feature is great, compared to tws buds like sonys xm3s, sp 700ns, cleers ally plus II's (which wasn't CLEER at all and was more like just noise cancelling being turned off and a muffled attempt of ambient noise added in) and felt on par with apples airpods pros and boses quietcomfort tws buds. Also in the app is an optional feature they call "PausePlus", which turns on the environment mode when pausing your chosen content to be aware of your surroundings, and turning it off when you press play only on the adapters. And this makes sense as how could the adapters know when to turn the environment mode on/off when you tap pause/ resume on your device. But an issue I have with the environment mode is that when someone is talking to me, it was harder for me to hear their voice over the surroundings. And wind noise makes it impossible to hear anything unless you can read their lips. •Connectivity + Charging: With the nature of these adapters being wireless, they use bluetooth to connect to whatever device you choose and magnetically connect to the case whenever these are dead/ low on battery and need charging, or simply not needed. Also a neat little inclusion of a battery indicator on the back of the case. And here comes the problem with these adapters and the case design. My specific adapters are cranky when they get dirty due to the nature of my job being drywall. And the contact points for charging that's on the case demand that these adapters to be clean in order to charge them and be put away. If not, the light still turns on red to say they're charging, 2-5 seconds later, it turns off, then the light comes back on for 2-5 seconds, rinse and repeat. And either both or one of the adapters will be dead once you take these out to use them, unless you wipe both the connectors on the case and contact points on the adapters clean to charge properly. •App: Of course being wireless, these come with an app. But before you can actually use the app, you are greeted with shure asking for your data, which is completely unnecessary in my opinion. Once you innevitably tap the check box to not send them data (or keep checked, idk, humans are weird), then you can explore the app. The adapters would like to be updated but works fine without it. There is the previously mentioned environment mode and PausePlus gimmick right when you have specifically both adapters connected. Once you have only one or none of them connected, you cant do anything. Theres also an equalizer setting to "fix" the sound of your iems and a settings tab to mess around with. This is where you can customize your controls, update the adapters along with being able to turn off the certain voice prompts the things yells out. Which I think should be a necessary option if anything bluetooth audio related has voice prompts since the voice just wastes time. •Sound: I already stated that it doesnt change the sound of your iems without any eq, but there is a small bit of latency/delay when watching videos, but the audio does eventually sync up after a few seconds of video playback. •Finally: TL;DR they work great, scary price tag, but I would recommend this if you are looking for a pair of tws adapters for your shure/ mmcx compatible iems.

Shure products have a great sound but if you need them serviced you can expect to be disrespected. My right adaptor stopped working 4 months after my purchase and when I wanted to have it serviced they are making me jump through so many hoops that I gave up. Shure products do work, but if you need warranty service expect a lot of complications. My recommendation: Avoid Shure products like the plague! Update: A Shure warranty supervisor contacted me and quickly resolved my problems. This product is the best Bluetooth Adaptor I’ve ever used. Combine it with Shure 846 earphones and you’ll be in sonic heaven.

I really, really wanted to like these. I love my Shure 535s and have the 1st gen Bluetooth (with the dongle) that I used for browsing on my phone and taking calls. It was never good enough for music, especially at the gym--there simply was not enough volume and the sound quality was flat. I always switched to corded when going to the gym. After reading the reviews for this new set, I was sold. First and foremost, if you own a high-end set of Shures, you're concerned about sound quality. These are definitely better than the 1st gen bluetooth. There is ample volume, but sound lacks depth on the low end. The sound quality is nowhere near what you get with a corded connection. I used these for a week at the gym and appreciate that they cling snug around the ears. They will not fall off. Slightly annoying is the fact that the housing that goes behind the ear is a bit bulky and it makes my ears stuck out. I have big ears and had been self-conscious as a kid--these pushing them out brought back unpleasant memories. I could get past that if they sounded amazing. However, the buds sit awkwardly in my ears. The thick cord that wraps over the ear and holds the bud is not at all flexible and, at least for me, pulls them out slightly so that I cannot get a firm seal in my ears. Therefore, I cannot drown-out the outside noise, including the obnoxious gas-station-dude radio metal gym music. I switched back to the cord for the gym today and was astounded at how much better they sound when corded. As for web browsing they're okay. They seem to cut-out after a few seconds of no sound and it takes a second for the sound to kick back in. So, for example, when doing Duolingo (language learning app), I miss the first word or two of every sentence. Annoying. This must be how they preserve battery life. I've used them nearly 20 hours so far and haven't made a dent in the battery. I'll continue using these for hands-free calls and to web browser, but they still don't cut it for listening to music. I guess I won't be ditching my old school iPod anytime soon--need that headphone jack. So, now I have two Shure Bluetooth options that don't quite do what I need.

Important update: just a couple of months after buying this the left terminal stopped working. I don't know if it's a matter of not charging properly or what but it really is beyond frustrating. I expected something different from a product this expensive and this brand. That annoying red light basically means it does not work. After a while it turned to flashing blue which means connection unsuccessful, after whatever I tried, but the right one did work, although bluetooth connection was weak. DON'T BUY THIS! Originally the conditions in which I tested this were using a Samsung Galaxy A54 phone and various websites as well as my music player. Considering I paired this to my Shure SE846 earphones at the beginning the sound produced was appalling. If you have those earphones you know they come with three filters that adjust the sound to three possible configurations, bass boost, neutral and treble boost. What varies is the amount of that porous foam they put in the filters, the bass boost has the most and the treble boost has none. Last time I used them with my old phone (had to stop for a while because of deterioration of the cable) I was using them with the bass boost filters. I'm not at all a bass head, but something I can remember, is that as I was using them with the three different configurations they had noticeable differences but they weren't catastrophic. At this level micro acoustics do play a role. You must find the proper size and kind of eartips to avoid losing low frequencies if you're concerned about it. So, as I said, at the beginning I had a terrible surprise and was wondering where was the fault, the bluetooth set, the Samsung phone, an equalizer issue. I was reasoning that it couldn't be that simple but I switched to the neutral filter with the gray flexible sleeves put on, large size. And the difference was night and day. Although I could fix it for me I do still feel kinda disappointed. I remember the good old days of wired earphones when the sound was louder and changing small configurations wasn't such a drama. Also you didn't have random interruptions while walking just because your body is an obstacle for the bluetooth signal. Either this technology has to improve or there will be a massive switch to usb-c cable adapters, at least among audiophiles. It's frustrating that the evolution (so called) of phones and everything is pushing us to issues like these, like it or not. I'm considering buying a replacement Shure 3.5 mm cable (mostly for the MacBook) and even an usb-c to mmcx cable, probably from Etymotic (haven't bought it yet). And please Shure, make some usb-c to mmcx cable commercially available! Well, after what happened I guess I'll be buying a damned cable for these earphones. I threw this to the garbage (impossible to do something about it here in Costa Rica). Welcome to tech slavery folks!

Although Shure does not give a NRR for the SE 215 E earbuds, they do seal out extreme sounds. I have used them for years in my day job as a Location Sound Recordist. Sports events, concerts, factories, you name it, I’ve recorded sound for TV productions in extreme noise environments for twenty years. When I was looking for a Bluetooth compatible earbud set that could isolate the motor on my diesel tractor that I use for my small farm, I saw these and decided to give them a try. I’ve had Isotunes headsets they don’t work. They take down the background noise but you can not hear your podcast or tunes when the tractor is running at full rpm. These Shure Bluetooth wireless adapters for the SE 215 work great. I use a David Clark standard noise reduction headset over top of these and I have awesome hearing protection and can hear the audio of the program I’m listening to at a comfortable volume. Battery life is very good. Well worth the investment.

También han mejorado la configuración del adaptador, mejor y más completo que la primera versión.

Verbunden mit den Shure SE846 Ohrhörer ist das Hörgenuss auf hohen Niveau, bei der Musik macht sich die hörleistung besonders bemerkbar, ein super Klang bis in die höchsten Töne. Ziehe die Ohrhörer an und lasse das IPad laufen, höre auch wenn ich im nderen Raum bin.

Used BT2 for a while and this gives my SE535 a new lease of life. Couldn’t be happier. Pricy but worth every cent.
