Excellent product, lemme tell you how to assemble
The chair and ladder are great. Feels sturdy for 185 lb person. The hinge on the seat is a little uncomfortable, but a cushion fixes that. Love it, would totally buy again BUT it has crap instructions as several others have pointed out. My suggestions: 1. Install the O latch and hook first. Yes, it's 2 pieces but the holes will tell you which goes where. You do have to pull the latch part up to screw it in. It's waaaaay easier doing it this way than building the chair and then trying to screw these tiny pieces in. But honestly, we leave it unlatched all the time. 2. It's basically 2 chair parts assembled separately and then joined in ladder formation with hinges facing outward. 3. Mine came with 2 little black rectangular foam stickers that I think are to cushion the parts when opening and closing, but the instructions don't tell you where to put them. I got the small clear circular ones instead that look better and put them at the bottom where the two parts join in chair formation. 4. The hinge doesn't feel good when you sit down. Make or get a chair cushion.

Useful piece of furniture
I purchased this exact same ladder/chair in the light color about 25 years ago from OVC. I am 4'11" and use many times every single day. When I am doing my seasonal cleaning, I literally climb up and down on it 20-30 times everyday for more than a week. My house is two story and I'm 68 years old and didn't want to carry it up and down stairs anymore. I wanted a second one to keep downstairs. I purchased this in the darker color. The hinges are different/larger and it seems a little lighter weight than the original one. The pieces of wood were not labeled. I had to use my older ladder as a model because the instructions are hard to follow. It is made in China. It took me not quite three hours by myself. If I asked my husband to help t, it may have taken an hour, but we most likely wouldn't be speaking to one another right now. Do not tighten the screws all the way until you get most of it together. Definitely do not tighten the hinges until you make sure all four screws in each hinge line up. This piece of furniture was created by Ben Franklin who was a genius. If this one from amazon holds up like my older one, which I think it will, it is definitely worth it. It is a perfect step ladder and great when I need an extra chair.

Great library step stool chair
I’m overall very happy with my library chair/step stool. It’s sturdy enough, and the wood finish is lovely. My only warning if you’re thinking of buying this is that the directions are terrible. In that the directions are only illustrations that are small and difficult to see detail on. It took me twice as long to assemble it because i had to remove and reposition pieces multiple times, and i had a hardware piece leftover that i have no idea where it goes or how to attach it, but the unit seems to work just fine without it so I don’t know. Overall - looks great, works great, difficult to put together for no good reason.

False claim on max weight - flimsy - floppy
False claim- max weight on instructions says 90kg, not the 150kg advertised. This is BAD!!! Assembly instructions are pathetic; they are difficult to see and no good explanation. The hinges don't fit right - not easy to find a replacement that would work. We've had this for a couple of weeks now and have to figure a way to stop the floppiness. I wish I could have had better insight. ONCE YOU PUT IT TOGETHER YOU'RE S.O.L. - GOOD LUCK FITTING IT BACK INTO THE BOX TO RETURN. Wasted money.

Poor quality control
Some of the screw holes don't line up properly and a couple had to be drilled. The instructions are terrible. They are small, almost needing a magnifying glass to see everything. No written instructions. The latch is of poor quality and doesn't stay latched. I will replace it. Once assembled, it's okay, but it was a pain to assemble.

Great little chair
I had my teens assemble this for me to give them a puzzle to figure out, and they got it! Took about an hour. I helped them at the last screw because it wouldn’t line up and we just used an impact to make a new hole. No biggie. And we use it daily for our library. It’s a beautiful little chair that sits in the corner and when we need to reach the books up top we just flip it over and climb up. Holds a good amount of weight and easy enough for my 8 year old to use too.

Cool Chair
Works great, directions not great but it's obvious where the parts fit and go. Rated 200 pounds and I'm 220 but I'm not scared.

Not the best quality.
The chair not the greatest build quality. The notches for the hinges are not true. The seat is not very even. The wood splits very easily when putting in the screws. It will probably withstand a few months of heavy use before breaking. If you can get it for $50 then that's probably a fair price given the quality.
