Can you unlock it and remove the key or does it have to be locked again before the key can be removed? Description is conflicting.

Yes. I installed this as a desk drawer lock so the key would be different from anything I already have. This lock works just like any other "lock and key" type setup. With the added convenience that the key is not required to lock it. Meaning that one the lock is unlocked, it extends and stays unlocked until you press the lockface flush to lock it.

Would this work to replace a lock on an antique chest? There is an existing lock on there but there are no keys.

I am sorry, I don't know what your antique chest looks like ... I bought for a letter box that designed for a tubular push lock. Sorry I can't help, my very best regards

The "hole" in these keys is a right triangle, not a circle. There is no "diameter" for a triangle, but you can do your own math to arrive at the triangle's "altitude" or height using these measurements: The "a" and "b" sides are 5.54mm, and the hypotenuse or "c" side measures exactly 8.08mm.
