Theanine (+caffeine) helps me tremendously with mental performance -- This is good-quality (+pure) theanine from a great Seller!
I just got my first order of Theanine from this specific seller (BulkSupplements) and am very happy with what I got. I use L-Theanine for mental function and I combine it with caffeine. I find it is useful in helping me focus and that with a larger dosage of caffeine (especially caffeine from guarana extract) that the effects are very pronounced. I can stay on track of tasks, sharply focus, and especially feel I work better with numbers. As all of our bodies are different and the same medication has different outcomes with different people, I cannot say if Theanine will be effective for you or not when used for this purpose. With that said, the User reviews here (and elsewhere) show that there is a pretty sizable chunk of people who have had luck using Theanine (combined with caffeine) for improved mental function. In terms of the science behind L-Theanine, the research is varied and not nearly as vast as many other supplements used for improved mental functioning. Some research has suggested Theanine has some degree of usefulness for anxiety, hyperactivity, sleep, the immune system, and mental performance. I use the word "some" because the results of clinical research has varied. Given how the same drug will affect different people in a different manner, this isn't all that surprising to see a limited number of controlled trials yield variable findings. With that said, User reviews show that Theanine has been extremely successful for some people (myself included) and so I think this is a supplement that holds potential value. Note that most of the studies which have found beneficial effects for reaction time and memory have also utilized caffeine alongside Theanine, as these two drugs seem to have synergistic effects in potentiating each other. I do not personally get any notable benefit from Theanine without simultaneous usage of caffeine. In terms of safety, I think it is always important to be aware of what goes in the body, and to be sure that what goes in our bodies come from trustable and respectable suppliers. Another Reviewer asked the question of 'how can one know they are getting real Theanine?' It's a fair question, and this is how I went about answering that question...In terms of 'knowing' if it is Theanine, I know because the difference for me is tremendous and very pronounced: for me, it takes the stimulant side of caffeine and somehow funnels it into mental sharpness. Caffeine alone does not do this, nor has any other supplement I have used for improved mental function. In terms of knowing if the product is safe and pure, I spent some time looking at different suppliers and reviews for their company and for the products they sell. I feel that this company, Bulk Supplements, has one of the best reputations on all of Amazon. Their general transaction feedback is excellent (like 99% positive), and virtually every product they sell has outstanding reviews. These thousands of stellar reviews made me feel that Bulk Supplements was a great choice to go with, and now having the product I can say I am very happy with what they sent me. So I am not sure if that is beneficial for you, but for me it was the deciding factor in buying Theanine from Bulk Supplements over other companies. I will certainly be purchasing from them in the future and I highly recommend them as a company to buy from. This Theanine (and other supplements in bulk) go along really well with a scale and a machine for making pills. As this comes in bulk powder, dosing quantity using a scoop is not the most reliable means and being able to weigh the dose is a much more consistent route. I purchased an AMW scale a few years ago for under ten bucks, so a decent-quality scale can be had for a very low price. I also own the Capsule Machine which I use to make capsules from bulk powder supplements. While there are tons of different makers producing those kinds of products, I figured I would mention those two as I purchased both on Amazon and can say first-hand that I am very happy with each. Having this scale and capsule machine makes using supplements much easier for me. So overall, I have had really good results with Theanine, and I am very happy with the Theanine that Bulk Supplements delivered on. While I cannot say if Theanine will be helpful for you or not, I can say that this is a Seller with good-quality Theanine in a pure form, and for a very reasonable price.

I have always struggled w anxiety before practicing piano, or working, or learning new things, and 200mg of this takes it all away. No tight chest, no sense of doom, no physical discomfort or negative thoughts from anxiety. And it is completely tasteless and mixes in water perfectly. Amazing product and itll last u a long time. This is the cheapest per unit l theanine there is of this quality. Buy it!

Good quality L-Theanine!
BulkSupplements has done us a great favor by offering us L-Theanine in bulk form. This is usually a rather hard to find and expensive supplement. This is the cheapest I've seen it. It is pure and it is the real deal and packaged in the U.S., so you know you're not getting fake stuff from China. L-Theanine is the stuff in tea that makes you feel calm and relaxed. I was once placed temporarily on Xanax for anxiety attacks that had no explanation. Then I looked up the side-effects of Xanax and found out how addictive that stuff was and how it has brought so many onto a downward spiral of misery. I started looking for more-friendly, all-natural alternatives, and that's when a web search revealed L-Theanine as an alternative to me. I didn't stop the Xanax cold turkey, but within two weeks, I was able to titrate and wean myself off of it entirely and replace it with L-Theanine. I then slowly reduced the amount of L-Theanine I was taking down to 100 mg. I now only take it because it makes me feel better during generally stressful situations, not because I need it. This a very powerful amino acid. It can also take the edge off of caffieine if you use that as a smart drug. L-Theanine + Caffeine = a feeling of clear focus without the crash or jitteryness. No daily recommended value has been established, but I would suggest taking 200 mg once to twice daily (400 mg max) and starting out from there. I've found that if I go over 400mg, I start to feel really drowsy and sluggish. Each person is different, so you may have to vary this amount for you. Also, if you want lucid dreams or have trouble sleeping, this is an excellent addition to melatonin. L-Theanine is for the most part non-toxic. There are no documented cases of anyone overdosing on it, but to be on the safe side, handle it like care like any other supplement. The package says on it, "Do not use if you are taking blood pressure medication." This does not necessarily mean that you can't use it. I am currently taking blood pressure medication for high blood pressure and I am doing just fine on L-Theanine. I have also never heard of anyone one high blood pressure medication having problems with L-Theanine. I believe this statement is just a warning so that the company can protect itself from liability in the rare event that someone does have a reaction. If you want to be 100% safe, talk to your doctor first. But, remember, this is pretty much a refined tea leaf-type extract without the caffeine stuff. If you drink lots of green tea, then you probably are already getting lots of L-Theanine in your diet.

L-Theanine and it's benefits.
I purchased L-Theanine to go with my BulkSupplement Caffeine powder. At first, I was a little skeptical purchasing from a company I've never heard of, let alone in pure powder form. Needless to say my experience has been great. I will break down exactly how I use L-Theanine (as well as quantity) in conjunction with Caffeine powder. First, let me tell why I use those two supplements. I have had problems with concentration and anxiety most of my life and I was tired of being prescribed medications that came with a laundry list of negative side-effects. So, I started doing some research and came across this wonderful substance called L-Theanine. L-Theanine is an amino acid and a glutamic acid analog primarily found in tea (Camellia sinensis), and also in the basidiomycete mushroom Boletus badius and in guayusa. The L-enantiomer is the form which is found in tea and used as a supplement by humans. So, what does this mean? Well, in short Theanine has been studied for its potential ability to reduce mental and physical stress, improve cognition, and boost mood and cognitive performance in a synergistic manner with caffeine. That is why I purchased the caffeine powder, however that review is for another time. Consumption: I mix 100 milligrams (get yourself a milligram sensitive scale, especially if you are going to be toying around with the more dangerous compounds such as caffeine; seriously folks, this is not a toy and should be treated with respect) with my green tea in the morning for, in my opinion, the best effects. Results: About an hour (6:00 A.M.) after I drink my green tea/L-Theanine/Caffeine mix I start to get a very calm, yet focused feeling that lasts until lunch time (12:00 P.M.). At that time I make myself another green tea with 100 milligrams of L-Theanine and 100 milligrams of caffeine for my afternoon boost. Now, this lasts me until about 5:30-6:00 which is perfect because I am leaving work around that time. I would highly recommend this product in conjunction with the caffeine powered for those who have a hard time focusing, or would like to cut the side-effects of ADHD medicine while getting the (albeit 100% anecdotal) same results. Now remember, like anything else you put in your body please do your OWN research and take what I have written here as some useful information to help make a decision, because that's what it is.. a review to help you decide. Well, my Amazon friends I hope this helped you make a decision on this product. But for full disclosure I will let you know I am getting a free product for this review. Now, don't be swayed by this.. I would have purchased L-Theanine anyway, I'm just glad I did from BulkSupplements. The packaging is nice, the customer service is great and the price is unbeatable. In conclusion I am very happy with not only my L-Theanine, but with BulkSupplements. It's nice to see a company be so prompt and kind to their customers.

Great for anxiety and studying.
I really like this product. I noticed that when I stack it with caffeine in a 2:1 ratio, then I feel more clear headed. It has hardly any taste. I usually use 1/8 tsp L Theanine with a cup of tea or half of a Jet Alert caffeine pill. I took it on the day of my teacher evaluation and noticed a significant decrease in anxiety from past evaluations. I also take it by itself at night for relaxation/sleep. My sister now uses it for anxiety, especially in social situations. I would have given it 5 stars if it came with a measuring scoop, as other brands seem to supply. I really feel like each powder needs a dedicated scoop to discourage contamination, which I had to purchase separately. The package isn't bad and actually stands up on it's own, but do be careful about spilling. I will purchase it again. I may get the 50% caffeine green tea powder to see how that stacks with this product for a better nootropic effect.

Great for health conscious who don't want additives!
This is an excellent choice for your Theanine Supplement. It's pure, tasteless, and easy to absorb. I mix it into anything I'm drinking since it literally has no taste; even my water. I have absolutely noticed the difference, my anxiety levels have gone down and I'm even sleeping better. I take it in the morning to start my day off right. I will only note that it did not come with a scoop. I happened to already have a 200mg scoop from another supplement I take. You will need something.

Great supplement, arrived undamaged and well packaged
I workout often after work, and am trying to gain strength, so I started looking in to pre-workout supplements to give me energy after a long day. The downside with most store bought supplements is that they come with so many fillers, and they ALL have SO MUCH caffeine (which I cannot take after like noon if I want to sleep well). By buying each component separately from bulk supplements, I can design my own pre-workout mix without the caffeine and without any additives. After extensive research (and no, I am not a professional, so I'm not advocating the below unless it worked for you, do your own research!) here is the list of ingredients I use: >Beet Root Powder: Energy, boost endurance and increase strength, replaced caffeine for me -- it definitely has a strong beet taste, but I kind of like that it offsets the lack of taste of the other ingredients. Sometimes I throw in coconut sugar for sweetness to offset the strength of the beet. >Beta Alanine: Research shows it helps fight muscle fatigue and increases muscle endurance in high-intensity exercise. >Creatine Monohydrate: Most sports scientists consider creatine to be the number one supplement for increasing strength and power. >L-Citrulline: Citrulline increases blood flow to body tissues. Research shows that for exercise, this may help supply your muscles with the oxygen and nutrients they need and stimulates muscle endurance & reduces muscle soreness >BCAAs: To aid in recovery. Often taken after workouts, but does have similar benefits when take in pre-workouts. >Theanine: Boost alertness and reaction time, it also has a calming effect, so great for afternoon/night workouts. Also found to go great when combined with the caffeine in pre-workouts.

It's L-Theanine at an as yet unmatched price.
This L-Theanine is more easily soluble in water than another well-regarded brand. In other aspects, they appear entirely interchangeable. This is a very good thing indeed. I have been taking L-Theanine for several(is 9 months still only 'several?') months. I typically take two 200mg doses/day. Once prior to the administration of my morning coffee(s), and the other around 5 PM. I know that lots of people try to use L-Theanine as a sole help for anxiety. I'm unsure of the efficacy of this use. I use it - primarily - to blunt the excitatory effects of caffeine. For this purpose It is pretty incredible. My pulse rate and BP are lower after the consumption of caffeine, than before if I have already taken L-Theanine. Of course your results may vary, but there is good clinical data to back this phenomenon. I was a complete skeptic, so I was downright shocked that a novel amino acid had such an effect. My 5 PM dose is as a post-work relaxing agent. This effect may be placebo, but at any rate it serves me well in this regard. If I was to rate the subjective effect here, it would be similar to an hour of moderately intense exercise(say, walking uphill at a 4 MPH pace). I find that more extreme workouts don't do anything more for mood and relaxation. They're great for the body, though :) There are lots of people who will try nearly anything to aid in stress reduction. I am not one of those people. I only take supplements that have low toxicity levels, and few side effects backed by clinical trials. There are only a few known groups where L-Theanine supplementation is contraindicated. People taking anti-hypertensive medications may find that their BP falls dangerously low. I should note that I weigh every dose with a milligram scale, and that I take 5 days off after 14 days on. I also reduce my caffeine intake during my break, as I can get a bit jittery sans L-Theanine. None of this is to be misconstrued as medical advice. It is only one person's experiences using what is a mild and effective anxiolytic and mood enhancer. YMMV. Consult a physician before starting any supplement regimen.

As described, just a power.
I like this product to help me relax for sleep but it would be different reasons others may take it.

returned
didn't really work for me. not much effect if any at all to be honest. actually, it helped me find out that i'm sensitive to l-theanine especially on an empty stomach, I got so much nausea that I had to call in sick to work before I figured out it was the supplement. good thing I was able to return it, very generous of them. Now i'm looking into making my own preworkout mixes, without l-theanine.
