Setting Up and Managing Your Own Coffee Bar: How to open a coffee bar that actually lasts and makes money . . . [Richardson, John] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Setting Up and Managing Your Own Coffee Bar: How to open a coffee bar that actually lasts and makes money . . . Review: ... race" and be able to open up a business like a coffee shop - Doesn't everyone want to one day leave the "rat race" and be able to open up a business like a coffee shop? I thought I had an idea how to start off if I wanted to start a coffee shop but I had no idea how in-depth you need to be to get into the business until I got this book. The Coffee Boys' guide really preps you and makes you think of building a strategy for success before you even think of getting equipment or planning out a spot. Are you primarily a coffee-house, coffee-bar, or stand? What are the best place to "break ground" for each? When serving food, are you an expert at every item on the menu (you need to be)? Ex: sandwich. What kind of lettuce are you using and what is the tacticle feel of the crunch? Does it match with the meat? The bread type? Freshness? Sourcing all the items? Etc. etc. Highly recommended. Review: great book but written from a UK perspective - If you have the ability look past the fact that this is written from the perspective of an operator in the UK and apply these theories and suggestions to practical differences in the US then this book is great. I picked up some great points that we were able to apply to development of our first store in the US . . . thank you !

Fun and Useful Read
The authors take years of experience from two consultants and turn it into a fun, energetic, read. The expectations of the contents are established right from the beginning and the anicdotes are relevant and entertaining. Great book.

Three Stars
It's a good overview, but not the nuts and bolts I was seeking.

Read this before opening your shop!
Recommended for those opening a food shop, not necessarily a coffee shop. Lots of info on things you don't think about before opening.

John and Hugh have put so much effort into this book. It is the bible for running your Coffee bar and business. It is so well written and and is by far the best book on the market. This book is a fantastic follow on from the "Wake up and Smell the Profit". You must buy these books and listen to and follow the great advice. And it comes with 2 hours of video from the internet. Where else do you get so much help and inspiration for so little cost.

As someone interested in starting a Cafe I looked at many books and many book reviews and this book is by far the best starting point. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the copious amount of literature out there on the topic of cafe/coffee shop start-ups but I would definitely start with this book first if you are considering the idea at all. The Coffee Boys 'real world' lessons give you an insight into the life and predicaments of a coffee shop owner without the 'rose tinted' view. If you are looking for straight talking and no bull or ego from the authors then buy this book.

Really pivoted my thoughts on starting a business. Reduced one star as the two hours of videos no longer exist which are mentioned on cover, in text and also in the product description.
