Love this Japanese woodworkers square, easy to use and quite flexible.
If you are a woodworker, you know that making something square makes your build easier. Nothing like this Japanese woodworkers square to help you with this often difficult task a little easier. It is nice and light and comes in different sizes. The markings are accurate and can come in metric, English and also tradition Japanese markings of bu, sun measurements (depends which one you choose, metric and Japanese or inches and Japanese) This square is made in a traditions style which has a thickened corner which then tapers slightly until it evens out for the rest of the length of the square. It has the thickened corner if you are using the tradition bamboo ink marking gauge. Otherwise you can order a regular shaped on which has the uniform thickness in the corner. The metal used is quite resilient to bending, and will usually bounce back into it nice and straight form. The markings are easy to read, even if you are old like me. It also has a special feature to check for diameter and radius as well as for making sure something has square, besides check for a straight 90 degree angle. Iโm not sure exactly how to do either one of those other two things, but there are markings on it to help you if you know what you are doing. But still Made in Japan.

Quality Tool
The sashigane, or Japanese square, is not going to be for everybody. Mostly because itโs metric! But Iโve been forcing myself to use it just to become familiar with the metric system. Itโs very accurate and true. Its flexible with a reinforced corner so it wonโt fold or crease there. Iโve been using Japanese hand tools for quite awhile and this is just another tool that you would need so if youโre looking for one, this wonโt leave you disappointed.

Very nice Japanese carpenter's square
Very nice Japanese carpenter's square but, there are no English instructions included with packaging or written on square. The camera function of Google translate app works well to translate the writing on the square with one's cell phone camera but again, detailed instructions for the use of all the functions of the multiple scales is limited due the limited space on the square.

Nice little square!
Light weight, but sturdy! Has metric measurements for those projects built in metric.

It's metric!
Somewhat delicate. I'm not recommending it for the construction site or your tool box. I dont think it would stand up to the abuse. It hangs in a special place near my bench and is treated with respect, unlike my framing square which I do not trust. So hard to find a metric square in the US, but i like this one. Has some other gradations, possibly Japanese, that i do not recognize and are not useful to me. 5 stars because it seems to be well made of fine material.

Wow!!!!
This is lighter and tougher than my English square. It is semi flexible and works great. The finish is what I have come to expect from Japanese products perfect. The lines are clear and easy to see.

Very well made
It seems somewhat expensive for what it is but the quality is so with it. Itโs made from a flexible steel that allows it to bend slightly on uneven surfaces. One of the best tools Iโve ever owned.

so a beam is easily registered against an edge
This is a stainless steel japanese carpenter square. Stainless steel, well build. Has two scales, one is metric, second one is traditional japanese. The short beam is slightly longer than 10" (25 cm), the longer beam is about 20" (50+ cm). It's flexible, so a beam is easily registered against an edge. Because of this it's very convenient for dimensioning furniture size panels and boards.
