How do you load the hippo/unicorn spring in the head mechanism? The heads are already attached, but the neck does not extend,

Not sure, try removing and putting it back on.

Do they sell replacement balls for this? My kids lost them?

I would like to know as well. My granddaughter has lost all hers as well.

What kind of plastic are the pieces? is yhis pvc-free?

I don’t know what kind of plastic it was made of. It was a gift and the kids liked it well enough… but completely junk. I would never purchase again. It will be in a landfill within a year I’m sure. I was so disappointed with the quality of this product. The game sets lopsided… and the marbles roll to one end… I actually had bought it for two different sets of children and both games were poorly constructed.

On the bonus game for "Unicorn" version, what happens if another player takes your color?

The player that chops the most marbles wins. Any color.
