Sony ICD-TX660 Lightweight and Ultra-Thin Digital Voice Recorder Recording and 16GB Built-in Memory

I saw reviews of this on youtube primarily as a wedding recording device, so I was hesitant to buy it. I am not a wedding photographer. I have been trying to record my dreams. I know my phone has a voice recorder, but the number of button presses to get to the voice recorder and the light in my face makes me forget the dream and unable to fall back asleep. Seems silly maybe, but that's legitimately my use case. The most important feature for me, then, was to be able to record with a single button press reliably. I looked at a lot of cheaper options, and was unable to confirm that they are able to record as simply as with a single button press. This one very much does. I can roll over half asleep, grasp this wonderfully small sized thing, fumble for the contoured button on the side, press it, and a half second later it'll beep and a little light will come on. I mutter into it with it half in my mouth so quiet that I won't wake my partner, and it records with high enough fidelity that I can understand it later. Terrific. You can turn off the beep if you want, too, though you do need to turn the device off after the one-press recording (or just leave it on). 2nd most important: It's USB - C. I refuse to buy non-usb-c products anymore. I'm cutting down on weird cables. 3rd most important: It records the date in the filenames. This is good for me transcribing dream journals and knowing the date the thing was recorded. Overall, no complaints. A bit pricey, but feels nice and solid, with great size point and solid-feeling materials.

This device is extremely small and lightweight. It easily fits into a pocket (I prefer using my shirt pocket as there is less rustling noise when you're walking, and you can hear your own voice better). The BATTERY LIFE is amazing. You can record continuously for over twelve hours on a full charge. The controls are a little awkward to get the hang of and the menus are somewhat hard to navigate, but they did the best they could to keep it simple so the device wouldn't need any extra buttons. Once you get the hang of it it's actually pretty easy. The sound quality from the built-in speaker sucks, but the recording quality itself is very good and you can listen back on headphones or upload the file to your computer and play it through your speakers. I have had issues with the device not appearing under "My PC". If this happens don't panic, it can be resolved but I'm not 100% sure of the fix, because I tried several things each time before it worked. The last thing I did, the most recent time it didn't connect, was go to common settings, then 'reset settings'. To my horror all my recorded files APPEARED to be gone, but they were actually just hidden, since the memory to show them got reset. The files weren't affected at all and I successfully transferred them.

For my situation, I required a microphone that was easy to conceal, lasted innumerate hours and recorded with amazing quality for distance. This was recommended by others and my experience thus far is the mic has incredible sound quality. It conceals easily. When power is OFF, it can start recording by pushing a single button, which is amazing when in situations you need to start without fidgeting with it. I have yet to burn through the 128 GB of space. The most amazing thing is I ran this for 16+ hours and I had yet to burn the battery out.

This recorder was much smaller than I imagined, fits in any pocket and is roughly the size of a lighter, pencil led container or juul device. I purchased this to use in the field to take notes on the fly and record unplanned conversations for my job and it works great for that. The recorder can be activated instantly and without powering on, with the touch of a single button, this is a double edge sword however because it is prone to accidental activation. The memory is not expandable however there is enough internal memory to last anyone a while if you offload your recordings every once in a while. The biggest negative is that the battery life is not the best, it will die within 2-3 days if not charged and that’s without much use and in its sleep/powered off state.

I love this mic. The audio quality is great and the thinness of the mic is amazing. However, I had two Sony reps tell me I could use a lavalier mic with this audio recorder, I took their word for it and bought lav mics and used it for a wedding and it in fact did not work and my audio was muffled since it was trying to pull audio from the tx-660 in the grooms pocket. It’s an absolute great mic if you don’t need to hide it anywhere and don’t plan to use lav mics. Also Sony, pls train your reps to know what they’re talking about.

I was so done with old clunky “cassette”-like voice recorders. Now I want what so many other reviewers have had their desires answered to: simple, quick, small, non-complicated audio recording at the push of a nearby-button! Sony pulled it off, and in not a small way! (pun-intended, this thing is the perfect size, that of a two good ball-point pens unified together on your lapel/pocket/clothing is about the right expectation. I think this is probably worth $150 but should be sold at $99 (I paid $118 on Amazon), and I can’t imagine it being much better. If only Sony would market this properly, I truly am blown away from prior/competing offerings. Completely fits the bill. No longer do my thoughts and ponderings, lamentations and creative ideas, argumented positioning and soundboard-seeking Fielding of the Mind go forgotten forever. Of course, I have my iTelephone 13 Pro which includes an app hidden for voice recording, but I’ve literally never used it and that tells you how good it is. Some needs/devices should be kept completely isolated/separate, like this super-simple, super-small, super-awesome stand-alone recorder.

This baby had fantastic USB connectivity on my PC or laptop, and transfered high quality recordings in a blink of an eye. Love this product. It functioned flawlessly in every environment I have used it in whether hot, cold, wet, dry, etc. It has been one of the best recorders I have purchased so an incredible value with a battery that seems to always be more than I need, Very happy with this recorder.

Ce petit appareil est étonnant. Il est facile à utiliser. Le transfert des fichiers audio sur un ordi se fait très facilement. La qualité du son est surprenante. Je ne peux évidemment pas évaluer la durée de vie de la batterie puisque je viens d'obtenir l'appareil, mais je peux dire qu'elle se charge rapidement par le fil USB et elle semble bien garder sa charge au fur et à mesure d'utilisations. Un très bon achat que je recommande à tous et à toutes sans aucune hésitation.
