Is this more of a orange-red or blue-red color? I can't really tell from the picture and I need a lighter red for my skin tone.

It's a bit berry toned but still red, not orange at all. I'm light/warm toned and it works.

Is it as purple as it shows?

Yes, it sure is! It's a very purple mat color! It stays on for hours! It has got a blue undertone to it, and the color is very bold!
