These are fantastic! The original is good, but if you want something spicy but not so spicy it'll hurt (and you have a relatively low spice tolerance), the garlic is perfect!! If you need no spice then I'd suggest the Rose.

Of the two, garlic is definitely my favorite, though original was not bad. The company notes that the "original" is supposedly spicier than the garlic but I did not find that to be the case, but maybe the original's sweetness was just more overpowering. I don't think either is particularly SPICY, per se, but I do have an above-average heat tolerance. Both were significantly less spicy than Shin Ramyun, if you've had that and want a comparison. The original was better after doctoring it up with gochujang and tamari/soy sauce, but the garlic I was very satisfied with the flavor on its own. Having had tteokbokki in Korea, I also would dare say the garlic flavor tastes more "authentic", though of course you can get all kinds of different tteokbokki in Korea. Portion size is tiny, even with a boiled egg I consider these "snacks" and not meals, and I am a small person who does not eat much regardless, so buyer beware I guess. But the quality of the rice cakes is truly superb, I don't know that I've had dried rice cakes with such good texture and taste, you usually need to buy frozen to obtain that quality. So I'm impressed regardless of portion size and this remains my go-to tteokbokki brand when I'm having a craving. (Do add at least a boiled egg to it, I find it really improves the overall eating experience as well as satiation. Fish cakes would be another good add-in but those are generally not something you have hanging around.)

I expected more garlic flavour based on what i ordered. The garlic is veeery light. Portion is a bit small compared to other brands. It is VERY sweet akin to the sweetness of bulgogi sauce or other korean sauces ive had in korean restaurants and fast food. For those whining about chewiness.... its not pasta. Its literally just like kinmochi. Rice cake is a very misunderstood translation. Its made put of literally rice pounded and pounded traditionally or fancy machines in modern times. Its going to be a bouncy gummy texture. Basically think of plain flavoured mochi (which means it tastes like rice). Just cause it looks like penne on a photo doesnt mean you should come expecting penne pasta texture. This is a common east asian staple. So only order if you like mochi in all its forms. Steamed. Boiled. Sweet. Savory. There is some savory and spicy flavour. But the sweetness is overwhelming it. You gotta have a varied palate to actually taste it. So if you like that korean bbq sauce flavour on mochi sticks... this is for you.

The best tteokbokki you can buy on amazon. The value for the product is 10/10. Absolutely delicious and amazing texture, just like you would get at a restaurant. The secret is you have to add a bit of cheese to thicken the sauce up and it is the BEST! I crave this at least 2 times a week and I know the business selling them is probably sick of me ordering them nonstop lol SO! GOOD! Original is also great but if you want that delicious spicy authentic flavor you have to do garlic!

I’ve been holding these in “safe for later” for some time! Now that we are eating Gluten Free, decided to try out 4 of the flavors! They are close to the authentic Korean “street food. They are also typically spicy and loaded w/seafood. The original rice cakes can be found frozen at most Asian grocery stores Since these are a bit dehydrated, the directions say add sauce and simmer. I found adding a little water to steam first before adding sauce was VERY helpful! Took me 10 min instead of 3 to get the correct consistency and softness. If cooking by directions only they would have burned and not fully softened. I’m glad I tried this version, although I’ll stick to the frozen disks in the future! The spicy meter on these I give: 4 out of 10 That being said, black pepper can be too spicy for my mid-western palette! Good luck! BBQ flavor does have gluten if anyone is checking labels or has an allergy

Excellent taste, easy to prepare, and mild spicyness. Keeps easily, doesn't take much room. For a meal for three, I heat some meat, add the tteokbokki cakes and sauce, and in a few minutes you have a meal! Tteokbokki also goes well with cheese and vegetables. Their other flavors are very good, too, but some are spicier. Good choice for a quick hot meal for one, or a fairly quick meal for more.

I love tteokbokki and sometimes it can get expensive down where I live to get that spicy rice cake fix. Sometimes these instant versions can get the job done for a fraction of the price. They're nice and chewy with a bit of heat. It's hard to save the other half when they taste so good. I ordered the garlic and I will say it doesn't have a strong garlicky flavor, it's still held a good flavor. Fair warning, it is sweet. I don't mind it because I do think it's a good sweet, but I know some folks like it more spicy and savory.

If terrible was a level on the grading scale, that’s where these would be at. One of the worst things I’ve ever had in my mouth; and I’ve put a lot of nasty things up in there. I got the garlic flavor since I don’t like ✨too✨ much spiciness. The sauce tasted like candied tomato sauce by Ragu. Zero spice level. No garlic. About 45 cups of sugar, though. So if you’re into that, I guess these are right up your alley. The rice cakes will be good cooked in a different sauce. I think I’ll cook them in the dish water that I washed the pan in - that will be an instant upgrade.
