Great product!
Why did you choose this product over others?: I chose this product as a brand that can be trusted and one that my grandparents used for their radios. I bought it to take to Le Mans 24hr race and to hear Radio Le Mans (English Language) throughout their coverage of the event. The reception and sound quality was excellent, and I took a whole pack of 8 additional AAA batteries as the one thing other reviewers mentioned was short battery life, but I didnโt experience this myself and came back with all 8 batteries unused. If you want a simple radio with headphones this is thoroughly recommended, keep it up Roberts for generations to come!

Efficient and simple.
I had one of these for several years till it died and had no hesitation in buying same again. Efficient, easy to use and small enough to take anywhere.

Not suitable for snooker commentary
Product seems great, but it was only upon using it and getting hands on the manual that I learned the frequency coverage does not include the broadcast ranges used by WST UK snooker events (around 60Mhz range). Coverage of this product is: FM 87.5 - 108MHz. AM 522 - 1710kHz (9kHz). AM 520 - 1710kHz (10kHz).

Website is wrong, no speaker.
The website is WRONG. The 995 does NOT have a built in speaker. I now have the pain of returning my purchase.

Sports radio
Great radio. Easy to set up stations and adjust clock settings. Works on am and FM. Have only just got the radio so dont know how long the AAA batteries will power it.

Eats batteries!
The radio is okay, but power management is very poor. Unlike the older, similar, but single-battery version of the Sports 995 (marked R 9995 on mine), this later version takes two batteries. 'Hah twice the battery life' you might think. Wrong! The batteries are in series, and the current draw (FM operation) is around 40mA as opposed to 24mA. So battery life is less than 2/3 than that of the older model, and you'd be replacing two batteries at a time, rather than just the one. Also affecting battery life on this new model is the stupidly unnecessary clock display, which does not seem to be disable-able. One further moan is that it's easy to leave it switched on. The off switch needs to be held down. A quick 'off' push just changes bands. Slightly in its favour is that automatic switch-off after 90mins is the default, unlike another Roberts model (the Sports DAB 5), which needs the time out to be set each time you use it. I am a bit disappointed in this new version, so I am minded to go back to my other one, despite the fact it is very definitely starting to show its age.
