The best curry to make at home.
Our favorite curry. Great flavor and spice. About as close to CoCos Japanese Curry as you can get since itโs not accessible to us.

Not too spicy
Very good product. I have a high tolerance for for spice and this product wasnโt overwhelmingly spicy, honest itโs probably a 4-5/10 spicy ๐ถ๏ธ if that. Loved it none the less! Great stuff!

very easy to make, here are some tips
This sauce is very easy to make and very tasty for such an easy meal. A few tips on buying and using this mix: 1. Beware of price gouging. Supermarket price is $2 for the 3 ounce box and $4 for the 7 ounce box. 2. Sodium content per serving is pretty high, so beware of using more than you need to for your meal. 2. The 7 ounce box is rated for 12 servings, but only contains 8 cubes. We use 2 cubes for 3 meals (dinner for 2 then leftover lunch for 1). That gives us much less sauce than restaurants usually serve, but it is enough for us. 3. We like our curry with more meat and vegetables than the recipe on the box. We generally use 1/4 pound of meat and 1/4 pound of vegetables per person. The recipe on the box says add lots of fresh onion, which is fine with us, but maybe more than most Americans like. 4. Recipe on the box says use 5 cups of water for 12 servings. We use 1.25 cup of water for 3 servings (2 cubes), sometimes less water if are adding vegetables with their own water content. 5. Extra-hot is less spicy than medium-hot at our local Japanese restaurant. We always get extra-hot then add more Japanese pepper to taste. Note that Amazon sells several other brands of Japanese curry mixes. The Vermont curry is not as popular as S&B (in terms of sales), but a lot of people like it better. The Vermont curry gives you a dark brown sauce like what you get in Japanese restaurants (S&B is a yellowish sauce). Vermont curry has a richer flavor than S&B which many people like, but it may be too much for some people. Some people like to mix the 2 brands to get a hybrid flavor, e.g. using 1 cube of S&B curry with 1 cube of Vermont curry.

Weeknight regular, we love it! Grate for better distribution
We've been making curry using these packs for a few years, and it's a weeknight staple. We look forward to Japanese curry days. Tip 1 - dissolve better: We grate the spice cube into the curry for better distribution and to prevent a large undissolved chunk from hiding in between the vegetables. Tip 2 - reduce sodium intake: By grating the cube, you can use less water in the curry and still get it to dissolve well. This way, you can make the curry into a thicker sauce, which requires fewer cubes to flavor the same amount of vegetables and protein. This way you reduce the amount of calories and sodium in the final dish, without sacrificing flavor. For two people we can get away with using only 2-3 cubes (4 in a pack), and we keep the remainder in the fridge in a zipper bag for next time. Tip 3 - Spice level: This curry is not spicy for our taste, no matter which of the options you get (mild/spicy/extra hot, etc). We use them interchangeably! To add spice, we just use cayenne pepper to taste. Have fun in the kitchen!
