Great, natural flavour
Great tasting gin, quite subtle but it is all natural, not an artificially enhanced flavour and this is exactly what I was going for. Since then I bought the pink Ukiyo gin too.

Delish.
We'd just finished our Ukiyo Cherry Blossom craft gin, which was absolutely gorgeous. So, the Ukiyo Yuzu was the obvious logical choice next. It is delightful. Fresh, easy to drink, as it's stunningly smooth and flavourful. Delicious, fresh citrus and quality botanicals (and, I'm supposing, fresh mountain spring water, as it's Japan) make all the difference. Though I've been a G&T drinker in the past, I've never appreciated flavour or quality. I bought the usual popular choice, just because, and anything "extra" or even remotely tasty was down to mixers and accoutrements (the usual lime wedge). This is not the case here. I come from a similar climate/biome, yet find that our craft gins taste too "piney" or "earthy", though some people love that. I don't. In fact, we have a craft gin subscription, and recently had one from B.C....I could not drink it, the "pine needle" flavour was so strong. Which is how we wound up buying Ukiyo to begin with, haha. SO glad for the opportunity. You can almost picture them hand-harvesting the florals, in a lovely Zen-garden like atmosphere....trickling brook...lovely lush greenery all around. It's a marvelous thought. Honestly, the price is great for the quality and flavour. I've never been someone to appreciate micro-brews or craft liquors; flavour had little to do with it...in fact, covering the flavour of the alcohol was more important. Not anymore. A quality, light (in flavour/sweetness) tonic and small accoutrement to enhance, is all that's needed here, imho. Attractive gradient coloured bottles. Yellow for Yuzu, pink for Cherry Blossom, with the same lovely blue-green. 🙂

Interesting Japanese Yuzu gin
'Different' is the word. Yuzu appears to be the coming thing, a citrus fruit from Asia that resembles a grapefruit disguised as a lemon, and tastes more or less exactly like that, with a healthy slug of bergamot for good measure. Not a bad starting point for a citrus gin. Here we have a classic Japanese offering, in an intriguingly styled and coloured bottle. The interesting container shape is contrasted by the classically clean, minimalist labeling (I haven't read all the reviews on the internet, but if somebody doesn't [mis]use the word 'zen' at some point, I'll be astonished). The top is a slight disappointment -the styling is fine, but it is hewn from a block of pure plastic, which feels a touch low-rent compared to the rest in tactile terms. At 40% vol. it isn't the strongest gin on the market, but a reasonable mid-point as these things go, while the pricing, at around £40 for a 70cl bottle (give or take at the time of typing in August 2021) is reasonable for a craft, or semi-craft product. Opening gives a crisp, obvious yuzu scent, atop crisp grain alcohol, with the usual off-spicy note of juniper providing useful background notes. A good start. Lightly chilled, neat the citrus yuzu immediately dominates, with the juniper again providing a good background depth. Surprisingly for an obviously citrus-based profile, it is reasonably smooth too. Note that this is very much a dry offering however: if you are looking for a liqueur type, sweeter gin, this may not be for you. Cutting into a gin and tonic, with good quality tonic water makes an excellent medium - longer drink, crisp, bitter, with an interesting flavour profile and balance. It works reasonably in a greyhound cocktail, although I personally think its own profile tends to dominate so I would be inclined to use in the classic 'and tonic'. It seems best served chilled, like many gins. Overall, while not the most complex, this is a crisp, structurally clean gin, well-judged and balanced, which does justice to its dominant flavouring. If you like a quality citrus gin, it is well worth considering.

Lovely Gin
The bottle is absolutely beautiful, the way it is designed the colour is vibrant at the top of the bottle and fades out at the bottom. The gin itself tastes lovely! I paired mine with a splash of sugar free 7up as I don't like tonic or soda water - and I feel it enhanced the flavour of the gin. You can definitely taste the Yuzu which is exactly why I bought this gin. Highly recommend!

Ottimo Prodotto
