Magnet in both units
Great product with incredibly strong magnets but.. there are magnets in both units, so in a steel frame dwelling the upper unit will attach to the metal and the system does not work. Fine for timber or concrete block installs…

Brilliant tool
Makes life a lot easier when running cables

Great for finding studs in walls too
The magnet in this is incredibly strong. So much so that running it across a stud wall will reveal where the screws are and does a far better job that the budget and pro Bosch stud finder I have. It is also great at drawing wires through a wall.

Works like a charm through insulated plaster walls
I was on the verge of calling in a handyman to do this work, but I saw this and the strong magnets worked like a charm! I now have a way to pull TV cables through the plaster wall without needing to cut open the wall. Much cheaper than getting help!

Good enough
Not useful if plasterboard is double sheeted. Good quality and works well on a single sheet of board

Good idea but not good enough, save your money
I never wright reviews but save your money on this. Not strong enough to pull through single or double board, plus new build walls are made of metal stud and seeing as both parts are magnets all it wants to do is ping over to the metal upright in wall. Cheaper to do the old fashion way of using a length of MT2 lid and fishing it down or over.

Not strong enough
Not strong enough to get through single sheet plasterboard. Catches the screws too.

For $65, it is crazy not to buy this magnet set. Strength wise it is very comparable to the Magnepull that costs twice as much. I have tested this in the shop and showed it to some of our electricians. My experiences come from the Magnepull but should translate directly to this Klein tool. For simple wood studs with one layer of drywall and no insulation, it is a simple process. Drill a hole at the top of the wall, drop the leader down and find it with the magnet handle. You can easily pull it down to your box location below. If there is insulation in the wall, move the magnet handle in short up and down shimmy motions and it will pull through fine. With double layer rock there isn't as much magnetism but in an uninsulated wall should work fine. If you are going from an attic to a basement, drill your top and bottom holes, drop a jack chain down the wall and shove the magnetic leader up the hole to catch it. It does work great in commercial metal stud environments. That is where I mainly used it. It is awesome for finding studs. If you are careful, it will also find buried metal boxes (you'll feel magnetism at the start of the plaster ring, then a dead spot, then magnetism for the other side of the ring). If you are fishing down the walls, just pay attention to where your studs are. Make your top hole in the middle of the stud space and pull straight down. Once you are closer to the box you can make a turn and exit the wall. That will limit your changes of it catching on a stud. This is an amazing tool and the price point is exceptional.
