The lid was broken off mine when it came in and it was dried shut,so it didn't leak everywhere. You may want to check the mohs scale if you're planning to polish jewelry. I scratched a fluorite, but did get it sorted out with a nail buffer. I'm sure it works fine otherwise. Keep it away from opals for sure! Lol, at least fluorite isn't super expensive.
