If you're looking for a premium hair clay that doubles as a leave-in hair moisturizer and smells natural and fresh, then look no further. Here's what's good: 1. Smells significantly better than the half-dozen other matte clays I've tried at a similar price-point. It smells naturally earthy and herbaceous, with hints of honey and rosemary. Nothing artificial or cloying. 2. It doubles up as a great scalp and hair moisturizer. I live in dry, cold Colorado, and this stuff really locks in moisture to provide your hair those natural oils and healthy sheen, rather than the dried-out look other clays often do. 3. It goes in clean and leaves none of that visibly chalky or sticky residue in your hair. It's got a flexible medium hold. It won't hold up a mohawk, but it'll be enough for short to medium hair lengths. It would probably suffice for a slicked-back style too, as long as you're ok with a more relaxed hold rather than gluing your hair to your head. Don't be afraid to go a little generous if necessary. 4. Did I say it smells fantastic? Just make sure you leave the container at room temperature or higher if you want to actually use it. If you leave it in your car on a cold night, it hardens into a rock.

I've been trying to get rid of petroleum/oil based products and had such a difficult time finding a quality hair styling product with a clean ingredient list. I'm so glad I found this product, you really can't get better ingredients than this styling clay. I'm still learning that a little goes a long way and still use too much from time to time, but I'm getting better. I wouldn't say it's a full on matte finish, but it's much closer to matte than a shiny finish. One great thing is that it allows you to reshape throughout the day; which is great after removeing my bike helmet I just run a comb through it and my style is restored and stays in place! I was expecting a little more of a scent to it based on other reviews, but there really wasn't much of anything. It was a very neutral smell, nothing very noticeable at all despite having rosemary extract on the ingredient list. Maybe it was just the batch I got, I don't really mind either way, but worth mentioning. I'll most definitely continue to buy this brand in the future!

I love the product. Natural ingredients. Great scent. Good hold, but not to firm. I gave it a 4 as I was looking for a true matte finish. The oils in the clay leave my hair a bit shiny and oily looking., but not glossy or wet looking. Over all a great product that I will still use. Will need to find a natural clay without the oils or butters in it for the true matte finish.

I bought this primarily for the natural ingredients, which get five stars in my eyes, but you can read them for yourself. As for the actual product, I use this after showering--usually following a soft blow-dry--and get exactly what I want from it--a light hold to add a bit of volume (without shine). All I need is a pea-sized ball or less. Additionally, for kicks, I once styled my (surfer-length) hair all the way up/back à la Ace Ventura by using more pomade than I normally would, and it easily held all of my hair in place. That to say, if you want a strong, firm hold, this will still work. P.S: I will add that it technically smells lightly of clay, because it is clay, but you can't smell it whatsoever after application. Fragrance is overrated, anyway.

This was our second time purchasing the Seattle Pomade Co. Grooming Clay. It worked really well for my son’s hair the first time; light hold, minimal smell and no greasiness. Unfortunately, the second batch seems to be bad. It has tiny little clumps in it that do not break down, even if rubbed between fingers. The result is that it leaves little whitish clumps in the hair. For the cost of the product, we would not expect this. It seems like a one off, since the first time we ordered was great but, considering the cost of the product, we would not attempt to order again.

Shockingly wonderful pomade, not greasy or too thick. Only a small amount is needed. A favorite by a longshot, please don't ever change this!

I really like this product, but it doesn’t really do what it says on the tin. It is natural ingredients with a nice smell and it’s locally made. It does have a medium hold as stated, but compared to other products I use (currently a hair cream) it is not a matte finish. My hair seems to look oily and unwashed with it. Another review for this product shows the oily look. I’m a woman so maybe compared to other men’s products it is matte finish, but for a lady’s use it appears oily to me.

Very happy with this product. I’ve been looking for some thing that wasn’t toxic for some time now and wasn’t really able to find one that works. This one far exceeded my expectations. It holds better and for longer than the other products I’ve tried. I also feel it makes my hair look a lot nicer. I feel really good that the ingredient list is clean. Despite other products claiming to be clean, when you read the ingredients, you can see if that’s just a lie, that’s not the case with this one. Ingredients, and everything about this. I’ll never switch to another brand again.

It’s very oily.
