Bar Mitts EXTREME Cold Weather Mountain/Commuter Bike Neoprene Handlebar Mittens/Pogies, No Bar End Openings

Toasty hands at -12° These really work. It is amazing how warm you feel when your hands are warm. Wind does not get through. Worth the money. They fit very well with the new stealth style brakes from sram. They are not overly thick or puffy, but they do their job well. It takes a bit of finesse to get the bar plug ends in. And they only work with an open end grip.

My hand are EXTREMELY sensitive to cold. For comfort I need gloves in temperatures starting in the 50s. Being an outdoor enthusiast this has been a very difficult problem to solve. Even with high-end mittens my hands, especially my thumbs, would become painfully numb after a short time in temperature staring in the 30s. I bought a highly reviewed pair of heated mittens. This worked well on hikes but the battery wouldn't last through a chilly 35-60 mile bike. A cycling friend lent me his Bar Mitts (not the e Extreme model) and I tried them while wearing my heated mittens on a 20 mile ride in 28 degree weather. The first positive discovery is that it was not difficult slipping my mittened hands in and operating my rapid fire shifters - the second, that I never had to turn my heater on. I bought the Extreme Bar Mitts and went for a 35mile ride with the temperature staring at 12 degrees, reaching 18 halfway through my ride, and climbing to 25 by the time I got home. It was brutally cold - a real test for my Extreme Bar Mitts. I started with unheated gloves but brought along the heated mittens. By 15 miles my hands were reaching that painful stage. The temperature was moving towards the high teens. I stopped and switched into my heated mittens, turning them on high until my hands recovered, then switched to low, got back on my bike and continued the ride. After 15 minutes I was able to turn off the heater for the remainder of the trip and the residual heat trapped in the Bar Mitts together with the temperature moving into the 20s allowed my hands to be completely comfortable for the remaining 20 miles. Given how cold it was and how terribly sensitive my hands are, I found my experience very encouraging. While I will need my heated mittens with the Extreme Bar Mitts in temperatures down in the teens, in the 20's ordinary mittens/gloves will do. For the first time I can go biking in very cold weather confident that I can keep my hands completely comfortable. I rate the Extreme Bar Mitts very high.

The only slight knock is the end plugs that came with it, I couldn't get to expand very well into my handle bars - factory Yeti bars - so I just used my existing end plugs instead and they worked fine. The positives far outweigh that little adjustment. I used these with a pair of the Rockbro Neoprene gloves and mountain biked when it was in the teens and 20's and once it warmed up in the pockets hands were toasty warm. Once it got into the 30's on a couple rides was able to take my gloves off and just ride with these. Plenty of room for brakes, shifters, dropper post shifter controls. Easy to get hands in and out of even with the "bonus cover" that velcro's in the openings. Side tip if transporting on a bike rack, I just took a couple bungee cords and folded the mitts forward and tightened them down with the small bungees so they wouldn't flap around on the highway. They may do fine but didn't want to risk tearing them up or tearing the thinner spot where the end plugs went in. Takes like 30 seconds and seemed to be a good preventive measure. Worked great and had no problems.

Bought these for my husband. He doesn't even need gloves inside them (biking winter in Utah). His hands are so protected that now he's focused on all the other cold exposures. We have for gravel and MTB bikes - purchased the toe covers from this same company. Awesome product.

These things are as ADVERTISED... not sure I even need heavy gloves anymore!

I have ridden in the winter for many years. The quest for the perfect winter mitten was finally over but, as I review winter bike products and had never tried bar mitts/pogies, I thought I'd try a pair. In extreme cold you still need a heavy pair of mittens under them and that makes it hard to get your hand in and out. They are great at around the freezing point. When I hear "extreme cold", I think well below zero F. If you ride in those conditions, these are not the mitts for you. If you have some good and non-bulky mittens that don't work well for you below zero, these may work as an adjunct. If you keep them on the bike into the spring, there are days that your hands will sweat. If you were wearing gloves you could just take them off or switch to lighter ones. These you'd have to uninstall and then reinstall if it turned cold again. I used them for one season. It is now January in Wisconsin and they are in storage while I use gloves on warm days and mittens on cold days. They may never go back on the bike.

I purchased the rock Bros extreme cold weather version which was about $50 based on the positive reviews that they were warm. There was one review that said that they look like they should be warm but they weren’t. Unfortunately that review was the most accurate for those. So I returned them and purchased these. They are worth spending a little bit more and getting a quality. Your hands move in and out of them easily they appear well-made and most importantly they keep your hands warm. I was out today and 14° actual temperature -3 windchill and I wore a light pair of gloves was fine.

Bike commuting in winter was becoming a problem because my hands would get so cold especially going downhill despite wearing very good lobsters. BarMitts reduce wind and keep warmth in. Wish I would have bought them years ago. Company very responsive. My bars are an odd size. When I phoned, they understood the problem and immediately sent me adapters to accommodate my bar ends. Worked perfectly! Thank you.

5 minutes to install. Lots of room, well made and warm. I tried a -15c ride without gloves, no problem. I can now commute all through a winter of -25 to -30 no worries. Well worth the money. I like the extreme version with the removable cuffs. I find getting in and out of the cuffs no problem.

It does a great job in the Canadian winter. I was able to ride with thin gloves with outside temperatures below -20C. The bar end plugs are great, they prevent the Bar MItts from slipping or discourage theft. The bar ends make the installation a little more complex than just straps, but it's well worth it.

These are excellent at keeping your hands warm in any winter conditions. I ride a fat bike all winter in Canada in temperatures ranging from -20 to 0 Celsius (-4 to 32 Fahrenheit) and they keep my hands toasty in these ranges and could easily be used in even colder weather. I only wear summer cycling gloves under them, mainly for comfort/grip. The vents are great for when your hands get too warm and the detachable cuffs are only needed at very extreme temperatures. Don’t bother with lobster gloves or thick mitts, just buy these and you won’t be disappointed.

Nice and warm. Lubricate bar end plugs before installing them (tight fit).
