what else do you need for this item so that it works properly?

You need: 1. A 12vDC power supply. 2. A display or Security DVR to connect the camera to. 3. A video/power extension cord to place your camera more than 1 foot from your DVR. 4. An BNC to RCA adapter if your display does not accept a BNC input (eg: a TV).All this stuff can be found somewhere on the same page as the camera.This is an OUTSTANDING security camera for the price. I intend to slowly convert my setup to these cameras.Good Luck,anonj
