Question 2

Can the bottom of the knife be used as a glass breaker? It looks like some metal is exposed.

Absolutely, it can be used as a glass breaker! This is full tang knife and the exposed tang end can most certainly be used to break through a pane of glass or car windshield.  Please note that it is not an ideal tool to do so; tools designed to break glass usually have a sharpened tip to concentrate force and bit into the glass surface.  You have more control that way. But this knife can be used to break through glass if you are willing and able to put enough "oomph" behind it. if you want to grind the exposed tang bottom end to a point or chisel end for breaking glass it might be a useful modification. Howzat?

Would this make a good tactical/ self defense knife?

The general thought is any knife you have on you at the present time that you are moderately proficient with can be considered a "good" tactical/self defense knife. Also, keep in mind a knife is essentially a tool. Putting it into the defensive role means things have gone pretty bad for you and even with proper training you will probably get you cut.That being said. I love this knife! for a $15-20 knife the fit and finish is terrific. It comes very sharp and would make a fine camp/outdoorsman's knife. The sheath is crappy, but for the price it does the job. To get back to your original question if put to the task of self-defense I'm sure it could get the job done.Good Luck and God Bless.

I was under the impression that the 4116 bladed knives were out of production. Is this old stock, or the wrong description?

I do not know if they are still in production.   I bought mine years ago.  It is a fine knife.  I use it often at the camp and carry in my water pack.
