The bottom part is made of pretty hard plastic. The balls and the ball holder is made of stainless steel. Works perfectly for me and looks like it will last long.

Does it go on forever? Or like an hour?

An hour! You're an optimist. This thing is horrible. It goes for about 15 seconds. I'm returning it. I remember these things from way back when and they would go for much longer. I'd gladly spend twice as much for one that was decent, but this is a waste of time.
