Is there a 1g measuring spoon in the powder container?

Yes, there is a small 1 gm clear plastic measuring "scoop" and you may have to use another utensil to help find it under the Betaine HCl crystals!! Took me awhile to find it, but it was there!!

Is this powder tasteless?

It tastes sour. If you don't like the flavor, take with juice or buy in capsules.

What is the source of this Betaine Hcl? Is this this gluten, soy and dairy free ?

So when you mix this with water as per directions it won't burn your esophagus?

I had found information online indicating that one should take no more than 650 mg. per serving--which is about 2/3 of the small scoop included with the Nutricost Betaine HCl. I began taking that amount twice a day and lately have been decreasing to approx. 1/2 of the small scoop before each protein meal. Have not had any problems with burning of esophagus or with digestion. Each individual has to determine what works best for their own digestive system. Doing some online research will no doubt be helpful as well!

Great Price !!!!

Can't beat the price!!! I did notice that it is a grainy powder, not a floury type of powder... It seems to mix well so maybe that does not matter.... Curious why that is as I have only used a full on powder when it come to this stuff... Hope it works out..I may report back if I'm not happy with it...

Great Product!!

Fortunately, I found this product when my previous HCl product was no longer available. The Nutricost Betaine HCl Powder provides much more thorough and complete digestion than I have experienced for years and alleviates the nasty symptoms of incomplete digestion! Yes, the flavor is quite "tangy" when mixed with water, but becomes totally tolerable in time. I always take after having eaten small serving of yogurt mixed with digestive enzymes--definitely works very well for me and I'm totally convinced that my nutritional status has greatly improved!!

Tastes like salty, fishy sweat or urine

While I have never tasted urine, this tastes like urine smells. Tried mixing it with my protein shake which is very strong, and this product ruined it. Disgusting!

I'm definitely going to continue buying this. If you have problems with indigestion, gas, or bloating after a meal, this is a total need! I take the recommended 1 gram during or after a meal, and it helps with digestion, preventing bloating and other problems. The entire idea here is that betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acid output, and I can attest to that. It does so without negative effects. The only caveat is: Make sure that you have something to drink it with immediately (or mix it with liquid when consuming it), as this form is strong, and it will burn your tongue if you don't.

Lifesaver!

Betaine HCL literally SAVED my life! I was on a feeding tube where food was being bypassed through my stomach, straight into my small intestine. Everything I ate made me severely sick. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and just kept telling me to take acid reducer medication. They finally did a gastric emptying test, where you have to eat radioactive eggs, to test how long they take to empty from your stomach. It look HOURS. My food was not digesting. I started taking this HCL and I was soon off my feeding tube. My food was finally digesting and I was no longer getting sick. Do you have burping? Acid reflux? Constipation? Nausea? Undigested food in stool? All of these are caused by LOW stomach acid not too HIGH. Like you are told by your doctors.
