Culligan SW-2 3/4-Inch Housing Spanner Wrench

My husband happy with this because we have a water filter in the basement the old owners didn’t leave this behind so we got this one works with our filter he said easy to use

I installed this as part of a set which I assembled in an attempt to prevent the buildup of sediment at my washing machine. I am on city water, but it is VERY hard water and I found that I was cleaning out the strainer about once every few weeks. Since installing these items, I have yet to have any issues! The following has been installed for roughly 6 months: Culligan HF-150A 3/4-Inch Whole House Sediment Water Filter, Culligan S1A Level 2 20 Micron Sediment Replacement Cartridge 2 Pack, Culligan SW-2 3/4-Inch Housing Spanner Wrench, Culligan UB-1 Mounting Bracket with Screws. I recommend purchasing all these items for an application such as mine.

I've been through two of these so far. If you need one of these, it's because your filter is on too tight to remove by hand. That means you'll need to apply some force with this wrench, but they are made from flimsy plastic so they end up breaking. Price-wise, these are inexpensive enough that breaking one isn't the end of the world, but it gets annoying having to deal with inconvenience of your wrench breaking as you are trying to change the filter and then having to wait for a replacement to arrive. I guess I could but a stack of these to keep around as they break, but I hate to throw my money at a poorly made product. I ended up grabbing a strap wrench from my tool box when the Culligan wrench broke today (while I was applying very little force) and the strap wrench worked great. I'd recommend grabbing one of those instead, which you may find useful in the future for other things around the house, or pick up one of the metal housing wrenches you can find on Amazon, which cost a bit more but look like they will get the job done for years and year.

Fit my Culligan/Ametek tan or skin tone filter housing wrench is Pentek SW-2 four lug and two wrenches are stronger/easier than one along with an 18” pvc pipe for torque extension. Housing is 4.5” ranges from 4.5 to 4.75 max od on wrench. Upper is 5” OD (4.5” ID) and lower/bottom end OD 4” 3.5”) unit is 10” long, cogs are .5” thick and roughly 1.5” between cogs/tines/lugs on the housing near the middle at zero depth not the outside diameter. Not sure if 4, 6, or 8 splines, but this fit ID nicely and worked. This old unit also needed a 4” OD Culligan OR34-A O-ring twin pack labelled A (4”) and install requires FDA approved scuba camera or Dow silicone O-ring grease. The filter 2.5” x 10” also fit well Whirlpool WHKF-GD05 (____-6003 stamped at top of filter) comes in 2 pack or discounted at Lowes as well for quantity 6 each purchase or 2.5”x10” equivalent OK. Best to have all those parts on the job before staring along with a gallon of water and bottle brush for rinsing while water is off.

I got this for an old whole house filter system (ametek brand but it's a standard size housing/filter). My dad had been using an adjustable wrench. When he got sick it took both of us to try and get the stupid housing off. I ordered this (culligan sw-2a) and used it yesterday, and was able to change the filter without help. It's plastic and not very sturdy but you need to keep it towards the very top of the housing. I had to apply a lot of pressure to unscrew the plastic housing and to put it back on and this worked fine. It sure beat trying to use an adjustable wrench which really just tears the plastic up.

Shipping was on time and price was right. Seems to be better than the one that came with Culligan home filter. Thanks!

My son was a bit heavy handed with my old one, and we had been using a heavy duty wrench to unscrew the filter housing. I started to get nervous that it would eventually crack the plastic. I should have ordered this a long time ago!

Does the job.

Great gadget, my husband really appreciates it when changing filters in Pentek 150071 3/4-Inch 10-Inch Standard Clear Filter Housing and the other similar filter housing that we have (can`t remember the brand on that one). I purchased 2 of these spanners so they could be hung close to each unit, which are in different areas. Sure wished I had found these sooner.

A must have for the Pentek filter housing and reasonable price.

It was not the right size, I got carried away by the picture/image. I had to get a repacement from the local dealers
