Get this as your DVD burner and player!
This cd player and burner has seriously been with me for a long time now and has never once failed me. Even when I tilt it and made it do a buzzing sound as I’m burning something on it, it works perfectly fine. Surprisingly durable for home use bot sure about outside use or dropping though. Also the ease of use it very much there and you just drag files to the disk and then click to burn or not and leave it editable and its so easy to do so. Also its light and fast as well so it is just perfect!

Reliable for ripping CDs to your library and burning your custom playlists to CD-R
Works great. Can burn playlists from Apple Music App to CD-R. Replaced older CD player/burner, which was burning discs with problems in playback

Cheap plastic, doesn't work.
Cheap plastic crap. Power cord did not stay in. Plastic housing flexed when trying to close door (door doesn't close automatically lol) and worst of all IT DOESN'T PLAY DVDS. Was not recognized by my computer, which was not helped by the power cord falling out at the lightest breath of wind. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Returning this for a full refund. Don't buy it, just don't.

Solid drive - recommend this product
I’ve always worked on Macs and years ago Apple stopped incorporating a CD-ROM drive in their Mac Mini. I researched options for external drives. I wanted to transfer my vast CD collection into my hard drive and I enjoy creating playlists for my friends and burning them onto CD. I did some comparison shopping and tried several drives from several different companies. I like the Verbatim drive because it’s sturdy, performs well and works FAST. I found other drives from other manufacturers are made with very cheap plastic and they are VERY flimsy and break in simple daily use. That happened on more than one occasion. I returned to the Verbatim drive because it holds up much better, is reliable and gets the job done. In terms of quality, speed and cost - I give it A+.

Plays and writes DVD's great, just a couple things that need improvement.
Works fine with windows 11, I have played a couple movies with the vlc player and burned a dozen discs which came out fine. My only complaints are 1 the power cord, I had to trim a couple mm of rubber off the plug to get it to plug in properly to the dvd writer, also the cord is to short. 2 the tray door hits the housing when you try to close it. Minor problems but they could do better...

See my remarks.
It works as it was advertised. In this artificial world today, that's wonderful.

flimsy CD/DVD writer has its good points
I write a lot of audio CDs for my studio business. Over the years, I've used Sony, Pioneer and Plextor external, USB CD/DVD burners that not only write audio CDs but also CD-Text (the text that pops up on your CD player in your car—er, wait I guess they don't put CD players in vehicles anymore, never mind.) Recently, my Sony drive bit the dust - it's the one I used in the studio. So, I thought I'd buy another Plextor Plextor 24X Hh DVDrw Ls (the USB drive I use in my office) as a replacement and, much to my surprise, discovered they are no longer available. So, I started a multi-day quest on Amazon for a substantial, external drive but simply couldn't find anything similar to my Plextor drive (which is built like a tank.) I finally came across a Verbatim drive that, in its description, had CD-Text capabilities. I then found a 2nd Verbatim drive model at half the price, but there was no mention that this 2nd unit could also write CD-Text. So, I wrote down the model #s and emailed Verbatim support an inquiry. Without going into the bewildering reply I received, trust me when I say Verbatim support sidestepped my question by providing an irrelevant response. I sent them a follow-up and never received a reply. So, I figured I'd take a gamble and order the cheaper Verbatim drive. If it wasn't able to write CD-Text, I'd send it back and order the more-expensive model. When the cheaper one arrived (this item being reviewed), the first thing I noticed was that it was FLIMSY . . . I was almost afraid to handle it, it seemed like the tray could easily be broken. If you imagine the CD/DVD drives that come with most new computers—that's how fragile this tray was. Nevertheless, this Verbatim drive was indeed able to write CD-Text and that was my main concern. So, I've kept it and have used it quite a bit; but each time, I use both hands to stabilize the unit as it weighs less than a pack of gum (well, not really but it seems like it's that light!) And it's a job to seat the CD on its spindle—you gotta use both hands and snap the CD down using your thumbs . . . and if you exert any pressure at all on the top of the unit, the tray won't close, 'cuz the frame is so flexible. A few days after I received this drive, I needed to listen to a test CD (music) and noticed a low "whine" that the drive made as it read the CD. I'd been used to the silent Plextor drive, so this was definitely annoying. But I could live with this minor irritation, as I have now moved my Plextor drive into the studio and will use that one if I really need to do some critical listening. So, that's all the bad stuff . . . I should post a few positives for this undernourished drive, so here goes: 1) Inexpensive 2) Writes CD-Text 3) Doesn't need a power supply 4) Reads & writes relatively fast (I think I saw 24X in ImgBurn) So, despite its frailties, I would recommend this drive for anyone who simply needs a utilitarian burner . . . just be gentle with the delicate thing!

Great buy.....
Arrived promptly, in good order. Worked straight away, no fuss. Very pleased after purchasing another brand (Australian owned) and it didn't work, no real instructions. Super happy with my Verbatim Mobile CD/DVD Writer/Reader.

Faulty product.
A little trouble opening and closing the DVD drawer each time. Finally the burner burned a disk and would not release it, no matter what I did. I had to take it apart, which damaged the disk It had burned and ruined the rewriter. I use Verbatim DVD's.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Does the Job Well, with a Few Hiccups
I recently bought the Verbatim 98938 External Slimline USB 2.0 CD/DVD printer to transfer some old CDs to my PC, and overall, it did a good job. The device is compact, lightweight, and very easy to use - just plug and play, no bulky power adapter needed. It also comes with Nero Burn & Archive Software, which was a nice bonus. However, I did run into an issue where it couldn't read some DVDs on the first try. It eventually worked, but it took a couple of attempts. Despite this minor hiccup, it handled most of my discs without any trouble. If you're looking for an affordable and portable CD/DVD reader, I recommend this product. Just be aware that it might take a little patience with some discs. I bought the USB 2.0 version, and it’s a solid choice for basic needs. 4/5 stars!
