Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside Carry-On Luggage, Black, 21-Inch

I bought my first set of Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside suitcases 3 years ago, a size 21" (carry-on) and a 25" because I travel extensively (roughly 50 flights a year). A year later I purchased another 25" Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside suitcase because I frequently need to 2 of the larger suitcases to carry all of my training supplies (I am a trainer for a nationwide company). My checked 25" suitcases are always filled to capacity, typically weighing 45-50 lbs each. In other words, I am very hardon these suitcases. I rarely use rental car shuttles, preferring to walk to the rental car facility when possible for additional exercise, dragging along these filled-to-capacity suitcase. In all these travels, these incredible suitcases have held up. The wheels remain smooth as glass. The airlines have beat them to hell, but they remain fully functional and intact. Recently (2 weeks ago), I had one wheel go out (a bearing issue). I notified Travelpro Customer Support, and they had 4 wheels in the mail to me the next day!!!! The great thing about these suitcases is that the wheels are all interchangeable. You can take wheels off a 21" suitcase and easily put it on a 25" suitcase (can't do that with other brands). These suitcases are built to take a beating, and if they are damaged (especially the wheels), they can be easily repaired. Yes, these are more expensive, but they are worth every penny. My old "popular" brand suitcase would make it about a year before they gave out, typically the wheels. But I could never find replacement wheels for them, so I would have to buy another set. That's when I gave Travelpro a shot, and boy, did they deliver. They are supper lightweight, but somehow super durable. Maximum capacity inside to fit all your belongings. I been a heavily traveler for the last 15 years. I kick myself in the head for not buying Travelpro sooner.

Excellent carry on. Husband said he could easily push/pull the suitcase around with two fingers. Very smooth. Held 4 days of clothes for Miami easily without even using the expansion. We love the color and weight of it. Only time will tell if the wheels last and will survive check in if needed. So far all the reviews are correct. Might even splurge for the bigger suitcase and get me a matching carry on. Good upgrade from the other popular brand we have. Love the look too. Pricey for the size but willing to invest if it makes life easier to travel through the airport. So far so good! Would recommend.

Excellent carry-on. Easy to pack; rolls well; seems durable. Wish it had an outside pocket.

Best carry-on I have owned, I am a Road Warrior for work. I did over 135 flights last year, and this is the only luggage I carry. It is durable, and the color is excellent, so there is hardly ever another one like it. I did see one this year like mine. If you want "packability", get a lot of stuff inside, you will love this unit. The wheels and handle have lasted two years this go around. My last one lasted almost 4 years before the handle had an issue. I travel weekly!

Just got back from a 4-day, 5-leg trip with the brand-new bag. Literally removing the stickers so I could pack it. On two of those legs, the bag was "valet checked," meaning it was dropped off on the jetway and returned to the jetway after the flight. Other legs were up in the overhead. Some thoughts: Pros: this is a well made bag, with a solid-feeling handle that locks firmly, and smooth rolling wheels. It's easy to glide along on all but the roughest carpets with just finger touch. Good zippers, and solid lock that's easy to set. Water-proof pouch inside is a nice touch. And it's a good looking bag, unique enough to set it off from all the generic "black square" carry-ons. The unique look makes it easier to see when they plop it onto the jetway, too. Attractive, solid bag. Cons: this bag is smaller than you'd think, and a couple of poor design choices make it feel even smaller. First, there two versions of this bag, the Compact Carry-on and the (slightly) larger Carry-on 21-inch. Based on the description that the Carry-on 21-inch is "sizer bin tested to fit in the overhead bins of most major domestic airlines," I was hoping for a larger, just-barely-legal bag I could put a lot into. In reality, it's no bigger than my 20" London Fog carry-on it replaced. Plus, the interior compartment design makes it feel smaller. The handles intruding into the case limits the space in one half, but that's been mentioned and pretty much standard if you have a retractable handle, although these feel a bit larger. The decision to have both compartments zip closed, instead of some kind of strap-down arrangement makes the space feel even smaller. You can see from the photo that there's about an inch and a half of "dead space" before the zipper on the top which makes it much harder to utilize the space below it. You have to kind of wedge the clothes in under the "flap." I'd much rather have (at least) one side that's open, and they could easily have reduced the size of the "flap" before the zipper. I couldn't conceive of buying the smaller Compact Carry-on. I could take or leave the external USB ports, and you can see the scuffs on the polycarbonate hard shell with just a small introduction to the travel experience. More than I expected, but pretty much par for the course. (Guess I was hoping for a birdie experience here.) Overall: good bag limited in space by some design choices.

I am absolutely in love with this luggage. When it was delivered I was super excited. The color was amazing. They ease of the way it rolled was exciting and I was pleasantly surprised that it had locks on it as well so no one could get into your luggage. Also, doubly exciting, you can purchase a power bank to use with the luggage so you always have a charger with you, especially at airports that don't have built in outlets in their seats (who does that anymore?). Anyway, took my first trip with this luggage a few weeks ago and this luggage wins hands down over any other luggage I've ever had in my life. At first I was a little skeptical about how much I'd be able to fit in it compared to past luggage. It didn't seem to have as much room. Much to my surprise, I was able to fit a week's worth of clothes, toiletries AND 3 pairs of shoes in this suitcase and not have to unzip the expander. I could've easily gotten more inside with the zipper expanded. Once we got to the airport was my real test. My right hand is usually aching by the time we get to our gate because of the amount of pressure I need to use to roll the bag and keep it on course. With this bag, I could've maneuvered it with one finger. It so easily rolled alongside me and even rolled without me even touching it. The handle has several adjustable heights so my husband who is 6'2" is able to have it at a comfortable level but so am I at 5'1". This luggage is amazing. The price may seem steep but it is well worth it!

The bag failed completely. Cracked across the entire face; had only been used a half a dozen times. A waste of money ..

I’ve been using this suitcase for over a year and I love it. I can fit a lot of items and still carry it on the plane. The wheels are wonderful. It glides through the airport with ease. My husband was so jealous. I had to buy him one too! Highly recommend.

Used it a few times now and it's really good. The description says "Platinum® Elite Business Plus Carry-on Expandable Hardside Spinner. Designed for ultimate convenience, this feature-rich hardside carry-on also offers exterior pockets for quick and easy access to your laptop and other necessities." - this product is not the "Business" version and doesn't have exterior pockets. Would be five stars but for that bit of dishonesty (intentional or otherwise).
