Very straight wire with consistent diameter. I attempted to fabricate small springs from it, but not suitable for my OD of 5mm. Too much spring force. This is just springs though and a lack of my proper knowledge. If you plan on making springs from it, though, attach a metal rod of your desired diameter (Home Depot for $2) to a drill and pinch on end of the music wire in the chuck with the rod. Be very careful and wear gloves and eye protection!

I ordered the 0.032" diameter music wire to make shepherd's hooks for miniature pottery birdhouses. The wire is not strong enough. It bends too much. Having a conversion to the gauge of wire would have helped me steer clear of this wire. I found one that says 0.032" diameter is equivalent to 20 gauge wire. I needed something at least 16 gauge or thicker that would not bend as much. (And I found some floral wire at Michaels that works very well.) I plan to use the music wire to make some small mobiles with pottery.

I bought these for a model railway application - As a throw wire for servos that throw turnouts. It's a great gauge and easy to work with as long as you have something to cut it with.
