Bought the 20 cu ft bag to use on my 2020 Equinox for car camping. Once we figured out how to pull back the weather seal around the car door frames, fastening it without a roof rack was easy. It was only on the road for a grand total of two hours in fair weather, so I can’t speak to the weather resistance, but it stayed in place and the quality of the construction let me feel comfortable about having my stuff on the roof. Stopped once to check the straps for peace-of-mind and only needed slight tightening, just due to the items settling. For reference, here is what we were able to put in the 20 cu ft bag (see picture): (2) king sized pillows, (2) standard pillows, (1) kid sleeping bag, (1) adult sleeping bag, (1) packable blanket, (1) fleece blanket, (1) weighted blanket, (1) twin air mattress, (1) dog crate bed, (1) full laundry bag, (2) tarps, (1) 10-person instant cabin tent. It was a good investment.

Very happy with this product and it definitely held quite a bit of our gear. It rained in excess of 4 hours one way and 2 hours back, with no evidence of leakage whatsoever. As it was hard to visualize during the initial product comparison, I'm glad I purchased the 20ft² carrier instead of the 15ft² (Go bigger.. always!) These units will definitely fit the roof of a Mini as well.. not that we used it on this rental.. just a good-to-know observation. Regardless of the fact we used a rental vehicle, a protective non-slip mat for the roof, under the unit is highly suggested.. as a just-in-case scenario. The zipper system and velcro flap that covers it seem solid. I did find it tricky to start either side's zippers when closing. So I'd highly recommend not to fully open zippers and stop about 8 inches before reaching the "fully" unzipped position. Following this advice will not impede storage in the least. I do have to mention that you will have to get creative with the included bag for the carrier, as after the initial unpacking.. you will NEVER get it folded as skillfully back in. As a side note, in the provided instruction manual, you are told that you should not put live pets into the carrier. Sage advice indeed. I'd also suggest that it is unsuitable for unalive pets as well.

Drove across Canada with this on top of a Mazda3, through rain and shine. I knew better than to put things in it that I didn’t want to get wet, some things got damp but considering the amount of rain I drove through I think it did pretty good as expected. It was easy to install and mount, nice and spacious and fit more than you think it will. It’s been a real life-saver for me! Must have if you’re carrying a lot of things but don’t really want to fork out for a rental!

Update: We’ve had this almost two years now and it has still held up really great for us. It’s been with us on dozens of camping trips and a couple of long trips from TX to Colorado. On one of those trips, we ran into some really cold weather causing ice to accumulate on the bag, still no problems. It’s seen heavy rain and kept our gear dry. Really recommend this product, we are very happy with it still! Original: I’ve been really impressed with this! We did not have the budget for something top of the line, but wanted something heavy duty that would last us a long time. We use this for when we go camping and it fits just about all of our gear - no longer is my kiddo sitting in the back seat squished like a sardine! It is very easy to get set up and is very secure. We drive on Texas highways where we go 70-75mph and have had no issues whatsoever. It’s kept our belongings safe in the rain, and after many uses since its purchase..we’ve found that it really is very durable. My biggest concern for products like this is always issues with zippers - happy to report that so far, we’ve had zero issues with anything! Highly recommend!
