I actually purchased this to use as a foot rest for the primary use, and then to have the benefit of also using it as a floor cushion for the times I need to sit on the floor. I was looking for a REALLY firm footrest, but not one that's hard plastic. I've used plastic and steel ones before, which have no give and are VERY hard on my feet, and the foam ones which are firm at first, but always seemed to soften too much. Both plastic ones and foam ones are also bad for the environment. I have a buckwheat pillow for sleeping, which is great because it's super firm, but also has give in it. I was trying to find a buckwheat footrest and by chance ended up looking at all these hyped up yoga/ pilates/ meditation labelled items. When I saw these "zafu yoga" pillows I figured the size would be just right for a footrest for under my office desk. This slightly crescent shape is perfect, and the size and height are just right for my feet. Overall dimensions are pretty inline with other dedicated "foot" supports. There's just the right amount of give so I dont get pain in my feet, but it's nice and firm to support the weight of my legs without going squidgy. For the price, this is pretty on par with a lot of foam footrests, and I think this one is far more durable. It's also breathable and washable cotton canvas fabric and buckwheat hulls are a natural material, so I think this is far better for the environment than whatever oil-industry by-products foam is made from. If the hulls ever get too crushed or musty, I can buy a sack of replacement hulls (which I can also source locally from farmers within my province) and the old ones can go into my compost heap. I don't know what zafu is, and frankly I don't care enough to google it. I don't think pillows make you meditate better (more? at all?) So I kind of wish companies like this would broaden their horizons. If you didn't target ONLY twenty-to-thirty-something upper middle class, probably stay-at-home women, you could probably sell more of your products. AND if you stopped with the ridiculous zen themes and marketing hype, people like my thirty-something techy partner would have looked at something like this as a comfortable, more durable, and environmentally-friendly footrest instead of the more expensive memory-foam, polyester microfibre-covered foam footrests he bought. Instead it won't even show in his search parametres, because he doesn't own any lululemon outfits. My griping about this ridiculous marketing now over, I actually really recommend this pillow. It works great as a floor pillow as well, if you actually wanted to use it for it's intended purpose. It's also great to kneel on.
