Scotland Yard had themselves a dependable-albeit eccentric-asset in Cambridge University criminology professor Jasper Tempest (Ben Miller). The prickly, neurotic, and filterless academic always seemed to hone in on the perpetrator's one mistake in this British adaptation of the popular Belgian procedural. Frances de la Tour, Emma Naomi, Barney White, Sarah Woodward, Julia Aubrey, Andy Gathergood, Douglas Reith also star.6 episodes on 1 disc. 4 1/2 hrs. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. Review: PROFESOR T Season 1 - Great series reminds me of Monk and Sherlock Holmes Review: Another Series Added To Our PBS Watchlist - Love It - This is a series that I had thought about watching for some time now and upon viewing the first episode, my Wife and I were hooked. It is a very high-quality show that keeps you guessing from beginning to the end and has both excellent actors and really engaging storylines. The storyline of the episodes contains very serious crimes to be solved, and Professor T is an excellent resource for the British coppers who engage his services. There is also a personal story about the Professor along with the lives of the coppers who work with him. There are moments of humor included at the appropriate time which really balance this series and make it one that will be watched as long as they keep renewing it.

Interesting variant remake of the original series.
I bought this after seeing a single episode of the German version of this series, itself a remake of the Belgian original. The Professor T who appears in this British version seems human, all too human, compared to his German counterpart, who is more aloof, isolated, icy, cerebral, otherworldly and obsessed. I do not know if the stories in this version are remakes or originals, but for me, they are, at best, minor mysteries. There are never more than 3 or 4 logical subjects to choose from, although many of them have hidden motives, so for the experienced armchair detective, the individual stories, one complete in each episode, are merely puzzles, not true mysteries. What I did find compelling was the overt emphasis on the suffering inflicted on innocent victims and family members of guilty criminals. Nobody comes out of these experiences happy. At all. This is somewhat different than most American detective shows where the supreme effort is the identification of the criminal, with little empathy or concern for both victims and family members of the guilty. Nevertheless, this milder version of Professor T is recommended as entertaining and well-acted, with good direction and production values. Hope to continue with the second series when released on disc.

So British And That's A Good Thing
Engaging from the get-go - all characters have depth so no feeling of cookie-cutter - ending of season one has closure but if you are totally enthralled (and why wouldn't you be) you will have to pay for the following seasons - so typical of AP which is why I hate AP - only time I watch is when it is offered for free or deeply discounted

Excellent Mystery Series
This is the British version of the Belgian Murder Mystery series of the same name. Many are the same story with only slight modifications to fit more the British sense of humor and culture. Truth is, this version is MUCH better than the original Belgian version. At the risk of being somewhat of a Spoiler Alert, the only fault I found in this series was that although every case was solved to satisfaction, every one - not a few, not some, not most, but every one had a sad ending. I don't like sad endings. Too much like real life.

Not for Trump.
This is the best show on PBS,of course Trump hates it.

A funny, moving and interesting series, well acted and with excellent scripts. As soon as we had seen it we ordered an extra copy for friends who, having lived in Oxford for a number of years, were more than a little jaded with the 'Morse' circus of film crews ans guided tours all over the place.

Ich mochte sein Darstellungskunst schon bei Death in Paradise - hier ist er noch einen Tick verschrobener - einfach wunderbar zum Zuschauen :-)

I thought this actor was odd when he starred as a St Marie Inspector but this one takes the cake. The stories are very odd and he is totally bizarre, he has some bizarre guests, including the lady playing his mother. But somehow the two episodes I have watched are fascinating. Worth a look if you like an interesting mystery with colourful characters.

This is the first series of Professor T and whilst the six stories are independant, it does seek to explain Prof Tempest's relationship & history with the police and with his mother and faculty dean. There are flashbacks to childhood which are expanded upon in the second and third series of the programme and go a long wat towards explaining why he developed OCD. The role of Professor Tempest and his personality quirks must be a very difficult one for any actor to play as it requires an obsessive amount of self-control and lack of visible reaction to events. It is played superbly well.
