One of my favorites
Love the Berrypro rods. They are a great bargin considering the quality of the product. I exlusively use Berrypro rods for saltwater fishing. The fit and finish is more than anyone can ever expect at this price point. I own many other rods that are significantly more expensive and have not held up as well as these. This is my favorite rod to chuck a 3 oz. spoon way way out there. It loads up great and i can easily get my spoons 150 yards out. Often i see fish popping past the second sandbar and this thing gets it done. Lightweight and considering the 13 foot lengs I can easily fish this rod paired with a 6000 reels size for hours. I also am not very nice to my equipment. I fish hard in any weather and this rod and its finsih held up very well. i have a small rinse spray bottle and wash off my rods and reels with freshwater after a day of fishing, it keeps my gear looking like new. I also like the guides that Berrypro uses.

Good rod
Very nice to rod! Action is great and it throws way out into the surf.

Will break UNLESS...
... you regularly check the joints between sections. I needed a 4-piece surf rod for travel and, as you've also probably found, the options are somewhat limited. This is a reasonable stick, especially for the price point, but you MUST be diligent and constantly make sure all 3 connection points are tight. If you don't, you'll crack one of the overlapping sleeves when you load up on a cast, or a fish. I used my rod for 2 different trips to Panama for what totaled 7 weeks of fishing, on a daily basis. I was exclusively throwing and retrieving artificials so the rod definitely got its casting reps. It proved durable and managed a decent number of fish (including a 40ish lb yellow fin when I decided to take it offshore for a strength test [I had the 11' rod, which is obviously too long for a boat stick, but I wanted to investigate]). But yesterday it finally broke at the butt section connection, when I loaded up a cast for a 3 oz lure. 100% avoidable. I don't think the sections are any more susceptible to loosening than any other multiple-piece rods so you just need to ask yourself if you have the discipline to periodically check for tightness.

Quality!
Quality! For this price point, this is a solid surfcaster! Pretty light too, for a 12 footer. Not as light as tsunamis, but still pretty light, and a 3rd of the cost. I haven't used it yet, but assuming it doesn't break on me, I think I will be happy with this purchase.

Budget friendly 12 foot surf rod option
Recently purchased 4 different 12' surf rods to test for overall feel and casting distance ability. Along with this BerryPro I tested 2 different Fiblink rods, and one by Littma. This BerryPro model was the best of the 4. I own three other BerryPro rods and thought it would feel similar to those other rods. What I like about the BerryPro surf rods is the overall design; light weight, slim taper of the handle, reel seat design, good wrap on the guides. I'm a vacation angler, I live 500 miles from the surf I like to fish and I'm still learning the proper form needed to get 4 to 6 of "weight & bait" out to deeper water. I'm not trying to win any long casting competitions. In testing I was able to cast a 4 ounce pyramid sinker 103 yards with this rod, the reel was a Penn Spinfishers V 5500 loaded with 30lb braid. That was the best cast of the 4 new rods tested. I could not cast any of the other 3 rods 100 yards, all them did allow 90 yards + casts. Ultimately I didn't keep any of the 12' rods. I opted to keep fishing with 11' BerryPro Super Panther, and Okuma Rockaway surf rods, both are lightweight, and have great feeling handles. And I think I like the feel of the medium action rods over the medium heavy of the 12' rods tested. I know you lose distance with the lighter action rods, and that is a trade-off I'm settling for. I do recommend this BerryPro rod, consider the Super Panther series as an option as well.

It's Biggen!!
Ordered 13 footer longest rod I've purchased for surf fishing. The shift below the reel is so long that I can't even tuck it under my belly. I have to put it between my legs when reeling in a fish. It's a bit wobbly but not bad. Built quality seems very good.

Perfect for fishing…Love this

It snapped quick and easily.
I was testing out the rod with a bait cast reel, 14lb line, and 2oz weight. The casting was amazing. Got hung up on a tree, barely pulled back and the pole snapped.
