Why is it dull and covered in grease and grime

Ita a collector sword and ALL katanas are oiled to protect the steel.

How durable is this blade? Could it break through bone, or is it more display?

For the brief moment I had this blade, it looked very strong, and sharp, definitely can do some real battle with it

This sword in its original form was not designed for weak individuals, but physically combat ready combatants. This in this day and age would rarely come into sword fights of old. But, would be formidable against any flesh and blood human on-slaught . Guaranteed! ( A quality machines could put an edge on it both beautiful and frightening…)
