If you're like me, then you've spent a very long time looking for the right shaving products. This right here is some of the best shaving lather I've used in my entire life. I've spent years trying to find just the right stuff. As someone with sensitive skin and coarse facial hair, nothing ever seemed to give me the right results. Every single shaving gel/cream I've used just left me with very dry skin. I could even physically feel my skin drying out while it was slathered all over my face right in the middle of a shave. And every single one of them burned to some extent. They also never really seemed to do much lubricating. Many a razor would pull and drag, resulting in a lot of unwanted pain and misery. On top of all of this, after finishing up and rinsing everything off, my skin would just feel very tight and dry. This stuff though? It's a league of its own. I've tried wet shaving in the past, but never with something like this. As the item title states, this is a NON-LATHER. It does foam when you first mix it up with a brush, but the lather eventually evaporates. Some of it may still remain, but the point is it's not like your typical shaving cream. It leaves behind this incredibly slick, almost oily substance. It gets in every nook and cranny and sticks to every little hair on your face. And it doesn't dry your skin out, nor does it burn. It creates a protective layer on your skin, ensuring that your razor performs a perfect glide with every single stroke. It has a very pleasant, but not too powerful aroma of sandalwood while also having a nice cooling effect if you apply it mid-shave. To top it all off, there is A LOT of this stuff. The container is 5.3oz, and while that may not sound like a lot, a little goes a VERY long way. 1/4th to 1/2 a teaspoon is all you need for a shave, coupled with a brush and some water to lather it up. This stuff works great with the other Vikings Blade products (especially the Forest Frost aftershave and the Dark Stallion/White Knight brush). If safety razor shaving is not your kind of thing, I still recommend this if you use a typical cartridge razor. I think no matter what razor you use, this stuff would be leagues ahead of what you might be used to.

Very impressed with the results of using this product. I read a couple reviews on Reddit about how well it smelled and figured I'd give it a whirl. From the onset, the experience was different. Prior to receiving the product I received an email from the owner (maybe a bot) expressing the difference in the product. While this has become a staple of many products, this messaging felt different. Likely the wording. Nevertheless, I get shaving "cream" in the mail and I'm quick to try it out. I have traditionally used other shaving creams of similar price points, some with special maca root ingredients etc etc etc. I shave a lot (face & head) and use persona blades. My issue with a lot of shaving creams is the blade sometimes jumps on my skin... not sure how else to explain it. This irritates my skin and sometimes causes knicks. I thought maybe I'm not shaving correctly. I soaked my brush in extremely hot water (as normal), took a shower, and started my routine. I shave in the shower to make sure my coarse hair is soft as can be. So after washing my face and head, I pour out the water and shake off the excess. I take a finger tip of Viking and put it in the bowl. It lathers nicely and does smelly really good and manly. After applying it to my head and face, I can tell there is a difference. The bubbles are popping and it's "disappearing". The difference between Viking and shave cream was night and day for me. It was a VERY smooth shave and there was no jumping. It is described as a surficant and I believe that describes it accurately. It seemed to make it easier on the blade to glide across my skin. My shave felt smoother than with the exotic products. I highly suggest this product especially whether you've used tried and true blue bloods of shaving cream, shaving cream in the can (you really can do better for yourself, trust me I know), or more expensive products that claim to be better.

This cream is really smooth and nice, and it smells good. My bf is a peaches and cream kind of dude, his skin is sensitive to razors and creams of many varieties. I got him the Viking Chieftan razor as a stepping stone to the eventual straight razor that he wants, and I also got him this shaving cream and the razor holder-- just to make it more of a set. Unfortunately this cream irritates his skin a little, and he's kind of a baby about it so now he's hesitant to use it in case it really screws with him before work or another event. I think he could probably get away with cutting it a little with his usual cream. It's a nice product, and everything I got him is clearly high quality. His skin sensitivies are not the fault of the company. I'm the Italian gf with skin like armor, I could shave my legs with 100 grit sand paper and be fine, but he's the Irish and Swedish one, and clouds hand-spun with angel fuzz by God himself would still probably irritate this guys skin. I'm hoping he uses it diluted a bit, bc it's a nice product and smells really nice. He knows it's good quality, so if you're usually good with a variety of creams and you don't have sensitive skin, it's definitely worth a try.

EDIT: I am not going to deduct a star from this product review, but after a month of use, I find that I am completely bone dry. I think this shaving cream is vastly superior to the standard tub fare, but it certainly does not last as long. So, $20 a month is a bit pricey for a month's worth of shaves in my opinion. I happened upon this product by sheer mistake. Actually, I was looking to see if one of my favorite shaving soaps was available on Amazon. Usually, I have to buy it directly from the vendor. During my search, THIS product came up. The reviews were very favorable. I thought, "Okay, let me try this one instead." The tub is the same size as my favorite soap, which I found to be very nice. There is an ample amount of product inside. When I opened the tub for the first time, I was a bit upset. There was not the usual "soap" I was accustomed to inside. Instead, it was cream -- like the Noxema type you would rub into your face. Now, I have spent my years of wet shaving using the kind of soap you dip your brush into and swirl around for about 30 seconds before adding the brush to a cup of water. This is a completely different animal. You kind of have to take your brush and dip it into the cream, just taking a little bit away. You then put the brush in a cup, add a few drops of hot water and lather it up. Again, I wasn't very happy about this process at the onset. However, after a few days of figuring out the right amount of cream to apply and the amount of water to add, I have been getting a tremendous lather. Best of all --- and this is THE BEST OF ALL -- this soap outperforms my other brand (which is Krampfert's Frostbite Shaving Soap). The reason why I love this soap is that it has a better lubing effect to it. The blade slides across the face without any effort. It's like my face was given a grease job (without the grease effect) and I can run a blade without it suddenly stopping and giving me a nick. Whether this will last as long as my other "soap" brand, I don't know. It's just a different experience for me and it seems I can get a lot of lather from a very little amount of cream. The scent? It's negligible. I get more scent from my aftershave than I do with this product. However, scent is not something that is at the top of my list. I would highly recommend that you try this product. I think it really does a better job on lubing the face than other soap dish products I have tried.

I'm just finishing my first tub of this. It takes some experimentation to get the wetness level right; it's easy to cross the line between too thick and too thin when adding water via the brush. Pleasant masculine scent; not too strong. The price per ounce is competitive compared to others I've used: $3.77/oz Vikings Blade; $4.25/oz Crown; $5.00/oz Art of Shaving. However, you will use more of this product to get an acceptable lather that you can easily spread. The lather is not luxurious and seems to dry out faster than others. But it does leave a generous layer of lubrication on the beard, and I can get by with just a light re-lathering on the neck when I make the second pass. So much of shaving is personal preference; i.e., what gives you a close shave with minimal irritation at a price you can accept. On a cost vs. performance basis, I'd rank this lower than Crown, which is my current favorite. If you're looking for organic extracts in your shave cream, look elsewhere; this one's pretty much a chemical feast.

I've been wet shaving for over twenty years using the traditional shave soaps and creams that produce a slick lather that I apply to my face with a Badger brush. I purchased this product because of the aroma profile. To my surprise, when I received it, it described the product as one that does not produce lather, instead it produces a slick, foamy product that you apply with a brush after the foam subsides. To be honest, it was the first time I tried a product like this. I followed the instructions, placed some in my shave bowl, added some hot water and started whisking with the Badger brush. It produced some foam that I let subside, resulting in what looked like a whiteish liquid without much body to it. I then used the brush to apply it to my face. The razor glided over my face mowing down the stubble with no pulls, or nicks. all while I enjoyed the aroma from this outstanding product.

After years of getting wallet raped by The Art of Shaving, I finally decided to try buying something more reasonably priced (this stuff came in considerably lower than The Art of Shaving) and after reading the reviews it seemed logical to give it a shot. To save you some reading, I haven't had this bad of razor burn since I was a kid. My skin lit up like the 4th of July after the first shave (using pre-shave oil by the same company in tandem) and a new blade. There just wasnt any real lubrication provided by the shaving cream and pre-shave oil and it tore my skin up terribly. I had more nicks and cuts than I have had in a long time, and I was uncomfortable for the entire day after shaving. Thinking this was a fluke, I tried a shave again a few days later and had the same result. The next time I needed to shave, I used my left over The Art of Shaving product and didnt get any razor burn. Hoping that maybe the razor blade needed some time to work out any rough burrs, I tried my Viking's Blade stuff again. Then I got THE WORST RAZOR BURN that I have ever had. It felt like I took a few layers of skin off and then dumped hot sauce all over my neck. To qualify my results, I always shave right after getting out of the shower. I use a safety razor with pre-shave oil and a badger brush to apply the shaving cream. Have done this for years. The only change I have made is in the product itself. I really wanted to like this stuff. It smells nice and seemed like a great alternative to getting raped by The Art of Shaving and their ridiculous pricing, but I guess its not in the cards.
