Weatherproof Mechanical Pencil, Yellow Barrel, 1.3mm Black Lead (No. YE13)

Ok, I don't write in the rain while rappelling down a cliff, or anything like that. I use these for woodworking and carpentry projects. I have used all kinds of other pencils, mechanical, different lead thicknesses, you name it. This is by far the best I have used for my purpose. The lines are just large enough to be seen easily, but still small enough to be very precise. The lead is very durable, normally with mechanical pencils I have to get the carpentry ones with huge lead In them to keep from just breaking all the time. They are imprecise and the holders are not very nice either. This holder is very high quality feeling, and so far, I have not broken the lead a singe time. Also, the lines are nice and dark. I know it may be more expensive than some pencils you can get, but it's well worth them money. A case of getting what you pay for. I don't think you can buy a better pencil.

I have dozens of drafting pencils. Cheap pencils, very expensive lead holders, all brands, all useful. I like this one better than any of the others, the lead diameter is perfect for almost any applicatio. The lead is dark, like a soft 4B, but firm. Doesn't wear down easily. The front end is nice to hold and well weighted. A great quality tool at nearly ANY price. I love mine.

As a meteorologist and long-time Rite in the Rain user, I have used Rite in the Rain's notebooks, pens, and pencils in extreme weather conditions, including blizzards, downpours, floods, and brutally cold conditions. And mud...cannot forget the mud! If you stop reading here, then know that you can trust Rite in the Rain products; overall, they work well for their intended purpose. My concerns about this pencil are few: 1. The unused eraser on this pencil was shredded in my pocket on the first day (see picture). I was surprised that a mechanical pencil on steroids was damaged after a few hours in my pocket. The remaining eraser won't last long, so you'll probably need to buy the replacement erasers and carry a replacement with you if you are doing serious fieldwork. For $9, I would like to have an additional eraser or two included with the purchase. 2. The pencil comes with one lead. One. Yes, it's durable, but one piece of pencil lead? For a $9 mechanical pencil, I would like to have spare lead included with the purchase. 3. I have mixed feelings about the cost of refills, mainly because spare lead and erasers aren't included with the purchase of the pencil. When your job description involves working in extreme environments, having the right tools to work in those conditions is essential. As packaged with a single lead and one less-than-durable eraser, the pencil is costly and incomplete for its "rough and tough" purpose. Twelve pieces of lead and six refill erasers are just over $6 each. You'll spend around $22 for the pencil, refill lead, and extra erasers, to complete a realistic set for field work. By comparison, the Pentel 0.9mm pencil came with an extra eraser and extra lead for $8.50. For me, it's easier to read my writing when using a 0.9mm pencil than the 1.3mm pencil. Just know that 1.3mm is THICK.

No issues in the rain writing. Would recommend to everyone

Unexpectedly heavy. The metal on the grip is thicker than we normally expect to see. Nice, sturdy, handy pencil. No issues.

This is just one of the many Rite in the Rain Products that I became obsessed with buying lol. I little bit expensive but worth it!

The tip of this pencil is off balance, it's too heavy and as soon as I opened the package it flipped out of my hand. The tube is made of cheap plastic, probably to cut production cost, too bad because I would have gladly paid more for higher quality materials. It's worth mentioning that regular eraser will erase the lead, and regular pencils also write and erase on the rite paper.
