I bought the Clay Play! Animal Favorites (Dover Children's Activity Books) for my eight-year-old son, and it has been a fantastic purchase! The book is a wonderful guide for young, creative minds and provides hours of fun. The book itself is of good quality, with a sturdy paperback format that holds up well to repeated use and handling by kids. The pages are laid out in full color, and the illustrations are bright and engaging. The visual presentation is excellent and makes the projects very appealing. The core strength of the book lies in its easy-to-follow, step-by-step directions. Each project for the 29 different animals includes a material list and instructions that use numerals corresponding directly to color photos, providing clear visual examples for every stage. This design really helps children (and adults!) understand how to form the clay and ensures success, even for beginners.

Great item, great value for money quick delivery

The illustrated guide provides a fantastic variety of models with step-by-step instructions for creating fun and creative clay models. I purchased this for my 5-year-old granddaughter and she has created some of the models and has begun more projects inspired from this book. She also likes showing me the different things she plans to create from the book and it has been a fun, interactive gift so far. It does provoke some thought as to how to form their clay from a 2 dimensional picture with their clay. But the opportunity for them to create and improvise during this process does provide some useful skills. I included a basic set of sculpting tools here on Amazon (which were under $7 at the time). These are a good thing to include if gifting this to a young person. They are similar to the wood and steel tools that they might use as they grow their skills.
