How do they seal at the top? Zipper? Snaps? Is the sealing mechanism durable? Will the seal leak?

Snaps. All along the hard plastic top and handle. No, there are small gaps between snaps in which I would think liquid would leak through. It does not seal like a ziploc bag.

What are the dimensions of the large bag?

I just measured one of mine, the grocery large sized, and it was 16 1/2in by 16 1/2 inch. Had them for years, and unless over 90 out, we dont bother with a cold pack in it, but dont drive home with it in a hot trunk. They are made well, had them over 10 years. Made in Germany.

What's the actual size? Says 18x6x1.5, but in the pictures they don't look to be that size

What the measured for me was 15x11.5x6. The 6 being the width across the bottom when opened.

Would this work to keep hot dogs warm for my child’s lunch?

Yes, but the bags are rather large for a lunch bag. I don’t know if they come in different sizes.
