Anyone tried this for horseback riding?

YES! I love it... It sits very nicely even without the leg strap, the whole thing is adjustable so you can loosen it to sit right on your hips while riding so that it doesn't interfere with your arm movements at all. I use it trail riding all the time.. fits my phone and a few other things so easily. I can zip and unzip it with one hand so easy to use while riding. We ride walk, trot, canter, and gallop on the trails and have loved using this pouch for almost a year. Would recommend to a friend, in fact got my friend one for our riding trip in Idaho this summer. Great for this purpose!

Anyone use for a holster?? Med to small hand gun??

Yes I do. I’m Los Angeles police retired. I carry a small semi automatic Beretta compact 9 mm. I have a small insert the slides down inside the bag. It holds it in place. The bag will act kind a like our old, “widow maker“ holsters are used to carry in the 70s and early 80s. You can use it as a holster. You have to do a small modification depending upon the fire Arm you were going to use. It’s a kin to the old fanny packs that were configured the holsters. Drawing might be a challenge. But it can be done with practice .

Exactly what are the dimensions of the straps? What waist size will it fit?

If you ised only the main strap, 44 inches. If you use the strap with the leg stap, you can get it longer. But then no leg strap.

Is the top zipper pocket a full pocket that goes down the length of the bag or is it shallow?

My previous answer was wrong. It does go the full length of the bag.
