Question 1

Question for people who bought this mat more than 7 months: how is the grip? Is it still firm? And how often have you used the mat? Thank you.

I've had mine about 9 months and I'm due for a new one. I practice hot yoga daily (classes are 60 to 75 minutes) and on weekends, I do double classes back-to-back each day (I'm on the mat about 3 hours on those days). I get very sweaty and in the beginning, the grip was phenomenal and an absolute game changer because my feet wouldn't slide and my hands would stay put allowing me to push more into the mat and get a better stretch and posture on the basic downward dog and warrior poses. Now, those spots on my mat have worn out and I slide. It takes awhile for the mat to dry as I have left it soaked from my practice. I have to hang it over a wall outside so it can air dry. Overall, the grip is wonderful, especially for hot classes because it saves on having to use a towel to stay put, at least up until you wear it out...

Question 2

Does the alignforme system work for a 5'1" women? are the alignment marks too wide for a smaller height?

I’m 5’8” and this mat is absolutely perfect for me- however, I can see how the marks are guidelines that would work for any height. Just adjust as needed. You won’t rely on the marks for long anyway as you master your practice. Even if this mat had no marks at all I would buy it hands down every time. Best mat out there. !

Question 3

Is this 1.6" thick or .16? Both a given

I tried to measure it with a common tape measure...it's maybe .25 at most so .16 is possible.
The stuff it's made out of doesn't "bottom out" easily though.
I was using 2 mats on top of each other before I got this mat, because my knees were uncomfortable.
This mat works great for me, and most people in my classes use it as well.

Question 4

I have a gaiam mat.  The nubby surface is causing my skin to chafe.  Does this mat have a smoother surface?

Yes it does, I do Baptiste at 95F and 55% humidity and I dont slip. When I use it in other settings and happen to fall out of side crow etc I am fine. Wheel, bridge and shimming my shoulders together. I have used this mat consistently 4 times a week since October 2019, it doesnt chafe my skin and it as good as it was when I bought it.
