MY FIRST DE SAFETY RAZOR!!
I just received this new product today with FREE SAME DAY SHIPPING (Amazon amazes me) and can't say enough about the quality, fit, and finish. I did hours of research before purchasing my first DE razor, and although this is a newer item, I liked what I read on Amazon, as well as the marketing strategies and customer support shown by the company both spoken about in said reviews, and shown to me as soon as I placed my order. Take this review with a grain of salt, as I said this is my very first DE razor, but this thing feels like it should cost twice as much as it does, and compared to other ones that I was looking at for the same price point or even more, I love the modern yet classic look and feel of The Godfather. The chrome is beautifully done, the handle is the perfect length (I have large hands) and the weight and balance is just perfect. The engraving on the top is also top notch. If you're on the fence, BUY IT. Blame me if you don't like it, but as for me, I'm sold on Vikings Blade products. I even ordered the brush VIKINGS BLADE Luxury Badger Brush, Heavy Swedish Alloy Base + Obsidian Acrylic, 100% Pure Raw Manliness to go along with it, as well as Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl, 5.3-Ounce and a stand SimplyBeautiful Deluxe Razor and Brush Stand, Chrome . NOTE: This review is based solely on first thoughts and appearance. I haven't shaved with it yet, as I'm still waiting on a few items to complete my wet shave kit, but I will update this review later with my thoughts on my first shave, as well as after I become more experienced. As for the product itself, it looks and feels very high dollar. Based on my research and how other DE razors appealed to me, for this price, it simply can't be beaten. Can't wait to see what Vikings Blade will come up with in the future. Well done, folks. ONE WEEK UPDATE: Still absolutely loving the razor. First shave went well, only one or two very minor nicks. I have had issues with some razor burn on my neck, and my jaw line is very "chizzled" so it is difficult for me to get a close shave without cutting myself. I don't think that this is the razor itself, rather my technique. I took a day off just to give my neck and nicks a chance to heal and we'll see how it goes next time. I have been changing the blades that come with it every 4 shaves, but cannot wait to try my ASTRA blades to see if there is any difference. Rating still stands at 5 stars, as I am fairly certain the issues I am having are 100% my fault, and frankly, I just love the friggin razor. Looks great, feels great, and it was an excellent value for what you pay. Can't really say much about the blades that come with it until I try the others.

Godfather After 5 Years (and Compared to 6 year Chieftain)
My first safety razor was the VikingsBlade Chieftain (January 2016). I was so impressed that I purchased the Godfather in February 2017. For context, I also own a Merkur 34c and had a popular inexpensive brand (which was so bad I finally threw it out). Comparing the Godfather and Chieftain: - Both razors are hefty and solid. The Godfather is longer (4.5" vs. 3 5/8") and a little heavier (100 g, 3.5 oz vs. 85 g, 2.99 oz). - The Godfather seems a bit more aggressive than than the Chieftain, but not in a bad way. Using a sharp blades like a Feather or Wilkinson, the Godfather can give me some nicks. The Chieftain does not. So I prefer a milder Personna or Astra blade with the Godfather. - The Godfather's 3-piece head bends the razor blade more than the Chieftain (one piece, Twist to Open). This may be why the Godfather excels with mild blades, while the Chieftain excels with sharp blades. - Probably for the same reasons, the Godfather excels with longer strokes, like under the neck. It may also be why my wife likes the Godfather for shaving legs. - Because of the Godfather's 3-piece head, it is a little easier to clean, but you have to be more careful changing razor blades in the Godfather (I have never cut myself) - The Godfather's head is sleeker, which is good for shaving right under the nose. (But the Chieftain works fine for me) - Both are high quality. After all these years, they both look and perform like new. No corrosion anywhere. I take good care of them and dip in a jar of cleaning alcohol after most shaves. I periodically put a drop of mineral oil in the moving parts. - They both have a head that covers the whole blade. Many razors have the non-cutting edges sticking out both sides which is not a big risk, but requires one more thing to think about. - The Godfather doesn't have a knurled handle, but the bulbed shape of the handle naturally stops it from slipping. - The Godfather is a very cool looking razor. The unique handle is similar to an old English Chatsworth style. - Vikingsblade razors are consistently top sellers on Amazon and highly rated. In addition to performance, the VikingsBlade customer service is the best I have ever seen for an Amazon product. At the end of the day, what matters are results. Buy the Godfather (or Chieftain) - you will love it.

Love it!!
This review is going to be a combined review, so you will see the same thing on 5 products. I use them in combination and feel they are connected. This review is for: Vikings Blade, Godfather Shaveology Shaving Cream Shaveology After Shave Shaveology Pre-Shave oil Feather, double Platinum blades I have been using an electric shaver for almost 9 years now. I got tired of the expensive blades for disposables and fast and easy was good for me at the time. I had 3 different shavers over the years. The last one, I have had about 6 years. They changed the blades on them 2 or 3 years ago. I dint ind the change but it always felt like I could feel the blades scraping my skin each time. It also did not get very close of a shave. I had been thinking of changing to wet shaving for a long period of time. Well its time for a new cartridge ~100.00, so nows the time to switch. I made the switch using a mail order service. After 4 shaves I hated it. The products were ok and were very citrus and refreshing but I did not like the razor itself and it was just not โthereโ So I ordered the Godfather blade by Viking. This thing is AMAZING! I love the weight to it, I feel like Iโm holding something substantial and feel more confident its not going to slide out of my hands and slice my throat open. I also switched to Feather Blades. I figured if I want close and precise might as well go all in. I must confess, when I put on the feather blade, I had prepped towels for the presumes carnage, but there was none. The blades and this viking blade system, just floated over my skin and I could barely feel it doing anything, but it was! So I have very happy with the blades and the razor. The Shaveology products are very nice. I LOVE the scent. Its very guy scented, almost cologne smelling and it just has such a great clean feeling without smelling too young and too old. (so hard to explain) but its great. The pre-shave oil is nice and thick and puts on a good layer. Letting it soak on for about 2-3 minutes while you prep the shave cream and your brush makes it better. The shave cream was weird for me as its a more dry cream and the last one I used was a little more wet. I did not use my bowl and instead put a little bit on the brush directly and applied it. It took about 15 seconds but started turning into such a creamy almost yogurt like consistency. It felt really nice!!! Shaving was very pleasant, as I mentioned above, its just super smooth and feels nice. The post shave balm is where its at though. I canโt say enough about this. The smell, the feel, and the feel on my face afterwards. I am still a noob at wet shaving this way so irritation is still present as I am getting the technique down pat. This soothes the face very well and leaves you refreshed. Overall I love all of these products and would recommend any of them to anyone.

GREAT RAZOR,but...
First, let me say that I LOVE the shaves I get with this razor. The handle length, weight, and balance are PERFECT. The performance is THE BEST but... There is a huge problem. This is a three peice razor. There is a threaded stud which threads into the handle. The threads in the handle strip very easily. They even warn you if this in the literature that comes with the razor. I needed the warning and made sure never to surpass "snug" when loading a blade. Just the same, after a few months of the best shaves ever, the threading gave up and the razor was useless I love this razor so much that I bought another one despite it's potentially short lifespan. Perhaps if the threaded stud were longer and if a coarser thread pattern, it if the handle were made if a harder alloy? It's a shame that such a well designed razor would have such a fatal flaw. If you try this razor and like it as much as I do, I suggest buying a spare for when the inevitable happens.

A Lady's Best (Shaving) Friend
As a woman, I never thought to give a safety razor a try until I met my boyfriend. I have been using a safety razor for nearly a year now with this razor being my second one. After using a safety razor that made my legs look as if I used a cheese grater to shave instead of a razor, I decided it was time to buy a better quality safety razor that was stamped correctly and did not have a knob that would fly open when shaving. I had three safety razors in mind: the Merkur Long Handle Razor, Edwin Jagger Long Handle, and this razor, the Godfather. I selected this razor over the two partially due to all the glowing reviews I have read about the Vikings Blade product on Amazon. I also liked that it was a 3 piece, had a longer handle than the other two, and many stated that it was heavy. After nearly a month, I figured it would be appropriate to rate this safety razor. Here is what I have to say about it: I absolutely love this safety razor! Shaving is no longer a (literally) painful chore that I dread. I have only cut myself once (my fault due to shaving when extremely tired). This razor does not require any pressure since the weight of it does the job. Compared to my old razor, the Godfather is twice as heavy. The performance of this razor is stellar! After proper lubrication from shaving cream (transitioning to shaving soap), this razor glides across the skin rather than digging into it like my last one. It feels as if I am not shaving at all for I do not feel the blade yet it delivers a very close shave that allows me to go longer between shaves. To give an idea, I had to shave every 2 days (shave with grain and against grain) with my old safety razor and now I can go a 5 days (shave against grain only) before hair starts to regrow to the length of 2 centimeters. I probably could go a full week if I shave with the grain in addition to shaving against it. I have noticed that I have less ingrown hairs since shaving with this razor and my skin does not become as agitated when shaving. This is a big plus for me as I am very prone to ingrown hairs and my skin is super sensitive to everything. It is clear that Vikings Blade did not want their product to be unruly as they gave the Godfather a lengthy 4.5 inch handle, which is ideal for women and beginner safety razor users as it provides better control when shaving over the standard handle length. This is an important feature to have when shaving the legs or any other party of the body as a lady. The only negative comment I can make about this safety razor is the grip of the handle. I wish it had more grip to the handle as it can easily slide out of the hand if the fingers are a tad wet. However, an experienced shaver knows that it is best to have dry fingers in order to ensure maximum control over the safety razor. The blades that come with it are perfect for light to medium hair density but it may cause pain for those with thick hair. My boyfriend used one of my Viking blades for his 1959 Gillette safety razor and found that it tugged at his thick facial hair. This razor is safe for all parts of the body, but like any part that you shave practice extreme caution when shaving an area you cannot see and shave those areas once you are familiar with the safety razor. This safety razor is very well built for the price and it is crystal clear that its crafter wanted to make it last for generations like older safety razors. Unlike most big brands, this company truly cares about its customers and prides itself in quality craftsmanship. I received multiple emails from the seller asking if I liked the Godfather and informing me to contact him personally should I have any questions. Instructions on shaving with a safety razor was also given, which is invaluable to those new to safety razors. This razor is presented in a beautiful box that would be ideal to give as a gift (male or female) for Christmas, graduation, retirement, an anniversary, birthday, or any other special occasion. This safety razor even impressed my boyfriend, who happens to be very cynical of any new safety razors due to not being made with the same quality and craftsmanship as older safety razors back in the day. But once he inspected this safety razor, he was very much impressed and stated that he will be ordering the Chieftain safety razor offered by Vikings Blade. His reasoning for choosing the Chieftain over the Godfather would be due to preferring a butterfly safety razor for the ease of changing the blades. Personally, I prefer using a 3 piece safety razor now for the ease of cleaning which I value more over the ease of changing a blade. This safety razor is also very easy to clean as you unscrew the handle from the head and comb part of the safety razor and assemble in the same fashion. I clean this safety razor with hot water and rubbing alcohol before wiping it down with a microfiber cloth after every shave session. This is not necessary, but I do this to keep the safety razor in the best condition as possible for I intend to use this safety razor for as long as possible. I would definitely recommend this safety razor for new beginners as it is very forgiving if it is your first time shaving with one of these razors. It is also great for experienced safety razor users as it can be made to be more aggressive with the use of Feather blades or similar aggressive blades. Although this safety razor is clearly marketed towards men, I would highly encourage ladies to give this safety razor a try. This safety razor has a uniquely design comb that is made to help prevent the shaver from nicking themselves, making it ideal for a girl shaving more than just her legs. Purchasing a high quality safety razor such as the Vikings Blade Godfather or Chieftain is also environmentally friendly as these safety razors were made to last and will outlast any plastic modern razor. If the concern about the environment does not cause one to switch to a safety razor, the price of blades alone might as a modern day razor refill averagely costs $17.95 for 8 (3 blade) refills (Gillette Venus Original on Amazon with Prime Shipping) versus $11.95 (Astra Blades on Amazon with Prime Shipping) for 100 safety razor blades.

Well Crafted for the $$$
I've been using a single blade safety razor for 20 years or more, one I bought at an antique store, but it was getting a bit grungy after two decades so I thought I'd spring for a new one. Based on price and user reviews, I purchased the "Chieftain" model from Viking, the rose gold one. I was completely bowled over by the quality of the workmanship, particularly at this price point. It gives a nice, clean shave, feels comfortable in my hand and frankly, looks kick a$$. I liked it so much, in fact, that I decided to order the "Godfather" model for use at my cottage. It also is very well made, though I didn't realize it lacks the mechanical gizmo that lets you insert a new blade without disassembling the razor. That's my bad, though; I should have read the description more carefully. So putting in a new blade is a bit more of a hassle, but overall, not that bad. It is a heavy razor and seems a bit more nick-prone than the Chieftain model, but I'm basing that on a single use at this point; maybe I just need to get used to the added weight of the thing. Regardless, they're both VERY nice razors, amazing really, considering how reasonably priced they are. If you're still using a "modern," six-blade, ridiculous piece of plastic that mucks up the environment and requires device-specific, overpriced blades, do yourself a favor and just toss that thing in the trash where it belongs. Once you get used to using a safety razor, just like gramps did, you'll never be tempted to go back. Also, I found the "gentle" blades that come with the razor (you get five of 'em) to be more than sufficient to cut my stubble neatly and I'm half Greek with whiskers like a yak!

Tremendous purchase--highly recommended!
Iโm truly impressed with this razor--phenomenal craftsmanship, absolutely top-quality materials. The razor is substantial without being heavy, and does its job remarkably well. Not a flaw in the polish (I looked), the plating is really well executed, just screams โqualityโ. Reminds me of some of the more expensive tools I haveโyes, it could have been made cheaper and done the same job, but I guarantee that I'll be handing this one off to one of my sons, and he will be able to hand it to one of his sons, and so on. It's built like something absolutely expected to last at least a lifetime. Two full shaves thus far, and there are a couple of newbie DE tips that I learned the hard way, so I thought Iโd share. First, it really matters which side of the razor blade is up. The bevel of the blade is on one side, and to create the right cutting angle, that side needed to be towards the handle. Not sure if all blades are that way, but if you tilt the blade's edge in the light, you can see which side was sharpened. Make sure that side is toward the handle! Second, the Godfatherโs cutting depth is a little bit adjustable. The first time I used it, I tightened the razor head completely against the handle, and just could not understand what all the fuss was aboutโthe razor did not reach far enough to cut right at my skin, leaving stubble that required awkward skin manipulation. I could not cut down low enough for a smooth shave, but figured I must be doing something wrong, so I took apart the razor (that's when I realized I had the blade upside down), and figured out the problem--the blade wasn't able to reach my skin. The solution is in how the razor blade is held within the head of the razor. When the handle is screwed into the head, it bends the blade into the head itself, forming a slight bow. The bowing action pushes the razor up into the head, and pulls the cutting edges in. Reversing that, when you start to remove the razor head, the bow flattens out and the edges extend a little. I ended up tightening the razor fully, and then reversing it for about 1/4 of a turn. That made all the difference in the world! Second shave was right at my skin, and all of the DE advice online started making a LOT more sense. Before you jump to a sharper blade, if you have been tightening the razor fully, I would try adjusting the cutting action a little, it helped me a lot. Finally, for me, tallow-based shave soap is amazing stuff for thisโI tried a few different ones and kept coming back to tallow soap. Julian, make some and Iโll buy yours next time. All in all, Iโm extremely pleased with my purchase and the process thus far of converting over to this method of shaving. Definitely worth the extra effort, and Iโm really looking forward to seeing what else Vikings Blade comes up with!

And to think I wasted so much money on cartidges
tl:dr This is an excellent quality product that can shave you at least as well as any name-brand disposable cartridge. Save money and buy this. Longer version: I've been using Dorco for many years as they were reasonable quality, for the price. Recently, the product quality has decreased and the price increased, so I decided it was time to move on. At first safety razors were a bit scary. Everyone uses expensive disposable cartridges and you can't even find DE razors in the shaving section of CVS, so that must mean something, right? I did some research and after a while decided to give this razor a chance, and I am glad I did. Right out of the box it makes quite an impression. This is not just a razor, it is a well made serious tool. It has heft and looks distinguished. No doubt it will serve me for many, many years and still look cool. You know how those Gillette or (in my case) Dorco handles eventually get worn and filthy, so that the cartridge no longer holds securely and it just looks nasty? That can't happen here. This thing is sturdy, three piece, all metal construction. It looks and feels nice, like that luxury razor I always wanted. If there weren't a sharp blade involved, I'd say it's idiot proof. As for performance, to my surprise one blade really does work just as well as four, or six, or more. There is a different technique involved, but I figured it out pretty quick. My first shave resulted in a few little nicks, nothing atypical, and a few rough patches. But, after my second shave I looked and felt just as good as if I'd shaved with my old disposable. Another point is with a safety razor, the cream used seems to matter. I was using the cheapest Walmart off label stuff, not wise with this tool. I bought a tube of better, but by no means expensive, cream and the results were vastly improved. I'm glad I took the plunge as I can now enjoy many years of excellent shaves for dirt cheap prices. I can't fathom how the big names convinced us all to buy their inferior overpriced garbage for so long.

First Safety Razor, Blown away!
Perfect Safety Razor for me, it has enough heft and weight and it is easy to use to shave! Definitely recommend!

Exactly what I'm after a safety razor I won't need to replace
Solid metal, doesn't corrode to pieces like all the other safety razors at woolies and coles. It will rust if you leave a blade in the head in a wet environment (anode / cathode reaction) but the rust scrubs off really easily.

Very enjoyable experience so far
I purchased a Vikings Blade Godfather Stonehenge in April 2022. The main handle is stainless steel but the head is zinc-coated. I've used a couple of other double-edge safety razors before but wanted to try one that originates (but is not made) in Australia. This one has a good balance in the hand and good heft. I've only used it a couple of times but it was an enjoyable experience. Would recommend you give it a go.
