The Story of Northwest Engineering Company: Manufactured at Green Bay, Wisconsin

Well worth the price !!!
This is the most comprehensive literary rendering ever done regarding Northwest Engineering Company . The authors leave no stone unturned with their research efforts for this book. The storyreads and flows very well and the images represent a fine timeline to the company's products that were produced. Many machines have multiple views and line drawings representing them.with informative captions. Another interesting aspect to the book is the company's key personnel presented within something that similar books of this nature neglect to cover. This product is well worth the price. I also bought their new photograph archive book on NW's early years that is well done too. I hope the authors plan to cover other construction size revolving machine manufacturers at the in-depth scale they have done here. American, Link-Belt , Koehring, Lima, Lorain, & Unit to name a few would be nice .

Buy The Story of Northwest Engineering Company, you will not regret it.
This book is an awesome read! I am a third generation Northwest dragline operator, living just 2 hours from the factory in Green Bay, and I thought i was familiar with Northwest and the story of their "rise and demise". Boy was i wrong, Matt and Mario did their homework, great facts, well written, and they even took the extra effort to look up and interview family members and past employees of Northwest Engineering. I honestly could not put the book down, because i was so engrossed in the book, when i first got it at 9PM , i was STILL reading it at 3AM, and i was only half way through it! I can't wait for their second and third ( and hopefully even more) books on the Northwest Legend.Get yourself the first book now and a couple more for any friends with a general mechanical interest. But ....Don't borrow this book to Northwest fans though, you will never see it again!

Great piece of history
Very interesting and complete history of one of America's great unsung hero's. The hard work and engineering efforts that this company put forth is an inspiration. The authors captured it perfectly. The photos and documentation was well done and well organized. I bought 3 more copies for gifts.

darn good book
well written book and the writers do not overwhelm you with technical jargon that makes it difficult to get through.overall its easy to read and quite hard to put down once you have started.the primary focus is directed to the excavators (shovel front- pullshovel) with a glancing chapter covering truck-wagon cranes and little coverage of the lift crane lines.but the shovels and pullshovels as well as the short lived hydraulic machines are covered in great detail.a good book with plenty of illustrations and photos well worth the price.

Well researched book
I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading the book. I figured it would just be a dry reference book with a lot of pictures. I was totally wrong. The authors researched the material well and laid out the facts about the company in a logical and non-opinionated manner. The only bias I saw was they really liked the model 25 especially in the pull shovel configuration and I fully understand why and it's not a reflection on their writing. I would have been just as biased if not more toward the 80D in a shovel front configuration. I would recommend this book to anybody interested in Northwest or any other machine in the industry. Job well done.

Excellent
This is the most complete history of the Northwest Engineering Company that I have ever found. It not only gives the reader a good overview of the company, it also has a tremendous amount of detail. No doubt, a lot of work went into putting this book together. A great resource for anyone interested in the history of the construction equipment industry.

I enjoyed reading the book but very disappointed that the some of the main people that made Northwest the great company it was are not even mentioned. That being the sales department of district representatives, majority of which had been with the company for over twenty years. Northwest Engineering main office was in Chicago located at 135 South La Salle St , manufactured at Green Bay, Wisconsin as stated on back of the machines. The main decisions were made in Chicago not Green Bay. I was employed from 1965 to 1971. I sold direct and then transfered to Kentucky and Indiana. I lived the historical decline from rubber tired loaders and hydraulic excavators taking over to the final death blow in 1969 when workers decided to unionize and when on strike. I believe these sales district managers should have been remembered. They were in a class all of their own. James A. Bohne
