Is the product supposed to be relatively hard? First time using, thanks!

Absolutely not! It should relatively creamy and have a nice smell. If it getting clumpy or hard to spread over your hands it's getting old. Also if it's getting old it will get a sour like smell. I run across this problem a lot if so just return the product!
