Excellent In Every Way
I needed an air purifier that could handle a large open living/dining/entryway area in my apartment in dusty/smoggy NYC. Since I was already very happy with a smaller capacity Coway purifier (AP-1512HH) in a bedroom, buying the Coway Airmega 250 was a no brainer. I've had the Airmega 250 for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly, quietly (except when it goes into overdrive when I am cooking steak,) and is easy to clean and maintain. First of all, it's fairly nice looking in a simple, unassertive way that is happy to sit quietly in the background. The smaller unit I have in the bedroom is not as attractive, IMHO. Both units are pretty much "plug and play." They both monitor the air, automatically switching to a higher fan speed when indicated. If desired, the "Auto" function can be overridden, so the fan speed can be manually set. The 250 has an automatic "nighttime" setting that goes into a temporary sleep mode if no change of air quality is detected over a period of time. This is great if the unit is in a bedroom, though it will wake itself up if it detects an environmental change. I am almost never aware of the 250, the main exception is when a smoky haze escapes the kitchen, usually when I am grilling or broiling meat. The unit then goes into "Red" alert, the fan switches to "High" and the air is cleared in a matter of minutes. The filtration system is in two parts: a permanent mesh screen "pre-filter" which needs to be dusted or washed periodically, and a HEPA inner filter which can be dusted off, but needs to be replaced at least once a year, or as necessary. A red light goes off when either of the two filters needs cleaning or replacement. I've noticed a significant reduction in settled dust on my furniture surfaces. Highly recommended. EDIT JUNE 10, 2023: This unit went into auto “red alert” as soon as the Canadian wildfire smog started to engulf New York City. We shut our windows and it took the 250 (and our bedroom unit) about an hour to go from red to yellow and back to green. What a relief to have these two units!

EXQUISITE/ BEST OPTION FOR LARGER APT. OR HOME SPACE IN A NON INDUSTRIAL SETTING
I did not make this purchase out of want ??? I'm very, very sick (have been for more than a year) & I needed something effective & affordable. WORST THING? I moved into new apt. only to find my ground level unit sits right next to the main drier vent. Because it's ground level, what flows in is almost impossible to get out, and hot drier air flows in & down. I almost gave up/ I did lots of research (enough to learn what I feared)??? I'll tell you what that is in a moment. You have to do deep research on a product like this/ there's so many options & most are useless (I'm sorry but it's true). I always read until I find those rare technocratic users who truly put products through their paces. THE TRUTH? Many of the high reviews for a majority of the available units are inspired by digital features (lights & listed options). It seems the old honeywell units were legit (really pulled dust, etc.)? But? They've become flimsy & flawed (even filters no longer seating well)... I never saw one of these COWAY units listed among either "featured" products or through "highest review" search option??? A real & smart user did a head to head with multiple brands & was truly impressed with COWAY. I punched the company name in (didn't even know what they looked like)... This product is exceptional in every way. It truly hauls air through one very large multistage filter (only 1 needed as replacement yearly). It claims to do a 900ft sq. room, & I believe it. PROBLEM? A unit is only as good as the convection it can create/ This is limited by irregularities in ANY space—lest you're buying a hulking industrial unit. I'm sicker than I wanna discuss here, I'm not an average user & the stakes are deadly serious. Before I even purchase this unit, I spent 2 days in the new apt. setting up fans & feeling the currents & air flow such that if I found an appropriate unit—I'd be able to effectively cycle all air through it. I say again, I almost gave up (I could easily see one MOSTLY must buy a larger, more industrial value unit if one has truly serious problems—and I don't have the money for such a purchase). THIS UNIT DOES NOT HAVE THE "S" DESIGNATION/ IT DOES NOT UTILIZE WIFI... NO—THIS IS A GOOD THING??? WHY WOULD YOU EVER NEED THE FEATURE & IT ADDS $100 TO THE PRICE... AND? IT'S BEEN MESSING WITH PEOPLE'S WIFI MORE GENERALLY (taking it down—in fact). There's a pre-filter screen & it works. The computer keeps track of the air volume. I started to notice eye irritation the other day & I cleaned the pre-filter (EASY PEASEY). The next morning? The light indicating time for the precise cleaning was on... IT WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY!! The main filter is massive with a micro-fit (set in easy & snug across all sides/ no loss of seal anywhere). I think the replacement is $26 & you only need 1 every year... CRAZY/ SO MUCH CHEAPER TO OPERATE ON TOP OF REALLY CLEANING LOTS OF AIR. Pulls smells fast & effectively. It keeps track of the air quality & it works (it tells you when something is introduce into the air via simple active color bar). I've been running it in highest haul setting. I brought the fan down to medium yesterday & the slowed air-flow seemed to find even more particulates (I have air moving fast everywhere with fans & I think slowing down a bit helped—ironically). On top of everything else—it's an elegant looking model. It doesn't look like—or try to be—a smart-buddy (like some smart pod with lots of useless lights). I've been poor most of my life & when I do make a purchase, I do my research. I don't have money to burn & the stakes are very, very high for me (carbon monoxide is building in my blood, suffocating me slowly & horribly). I'm fighting for life/ I need anything that can help CUS I have emphysema already & nobody really knows why 02 is accumulating? Probably a black mold infestation in last apt... WHAT A PRODUCT/ I WISH I COULD SAY I'D BUILT IT... I've done a bit of inventing in my life. I'd like to think that if I did build an air purifier? it would look & function just like this... GET IT !!! SERIOUSLY...

Great product reasonable price
I love this thing! It works really well and is almost silent on low but automatically kicks in when needed. Most of the time I forget it’s even there and then the auto sensor kicks in just when you would expect it to. I wish I had bought it sooner

My Favorite Air Purifier
This is absolutely my favorite air purifier. I tend to rely on HEPA alone instead of units with ionizers. The aesthetic design of this feels timeless, so I can appreciate it anywhere be it the kitchen or my living room. I have an open floor plan that contains both the entryway, kitchen, office space, and living room. I keep this unit in the kitchen since I don't have a range hood vent yet, so I rely on this to reduce the cooking fumes down. It definitely helps and I noticed a difference in air quality. It kicks into gear whenever I'm cooking, as I set it on auto mode. After I had a good experience with this air purifier, I decided to share it with my family. My dogs literally sneeze every time they enter my parent's house. After my brother purchased one for their home, the conditions improved significantly and all of our allergies are under control. We know it works. Finally, my most recent experience is what seals the deal for me to buy another. Contractors recently came over to do water damage abatement. They did not set up a containment wall properly as we discussed, and unfortunately cut my drywall without covering my return vents as originally promised. It turns out there was an inner layer of drywall that contained asbestos joint compound. When I had an environmental air quality specialist come over the next week, the guy had a good long stare at my Coway 250 and deduced that since I had one of these on the main level and a 150 upstairs in the smaller rooms running full time, he was confident that there would be no detectable airborne asbestos fibers in my living space (note: that doesn't mean that there wasn't any settled on my surfaces though). They did a PCM test anyway, and it was well below detectable thresholds (PCM doesn't actually test the type of particles in the air, but rather concentration of small particles). They told me my air was clear and I didn't necessarily need to wear a respirator just to come in and out of my house. Different story if I was to start kicking up dust and doing work since the contractors messed up, but the point is, the coway has scrubbed my air well.

Good Performance & Quiet/ Damage in Shipping
I have had the Coway Air Purifier for a few days and it has been working well to help eliminate "old house" odor when the temperature starts to warm up in the spring. Note, the box had a gash in the side and the purifier side cover is broken/damaged. When it was delivered the delivery person purposely had the box turned so that I did not see the damage until I brought it inside. I decided to keep it since returns can be a hassel. I am not too happy with Amazon orders this year.

2.5 years so far - has been a solid product for us
We have had the Coway Airmega 250 air purifier for about 2.5 years. We go through about one filter per year of use. I vacuum the prefilter approximately monthly, when the reminder light comes on. (Another light comes on when you need a new main filter.) The purifier serves a large area which is foyer/kitchen/dining/living room. We run it in smart mode, so it doesn't run continuously. It cycles on and if it needs to do some air cleaning, it stays on. It definitely reacts to when I am browning meat on the stove, ratcheting up the fan and changing the led color (which indicates how dirty it thinks the air is). We also have central air/furnace with its own filter, but I like having additional filtration, especially when some wildfire smoke ends up here in the Minneapolis area. I observe it is more active when we have the really bad air quality. It is nice to feel like we are able to do something to improve our air quality. It is very quiet unless it needs to kick up the filtering to a higher level. Then the fan is louder because it is running faster, but we don't find it overly loud. We sleep down a hall from where it is located and we have never noticed any noise from it. The neutral 'greige' color is nice. White doesn't work in our home, so it is nice to be able to get something that blends in. I feel this was a good investment to have some way to monitor and clean our in-home air in this era of intermittent poor air quality. It seems durable. I have not had any issue with getting the filters - I just buy the replacement 250/250s ones from the Coway store on Amazon. One of the reasons we went with this model is that Coway seems well-established, and I wanted to make sure I would be able to get filters for many years to come. This has been a solid product for us.

The only air filter you will need
I recommend this air filter to all my family and friends. And we are looking to purchase another one for our bedroom. This one stays in our living room. It has 2 air filters (one is more of a mesh, but it really captures dust and pet hair). We have quite a few of pets and this air filter really gets rid of any lingering odors. We also have the "smart" air filter version, so you can control it on your phone via app. On the app it tells you the air quality, the lifespan of your air filter, and when to replace it/clean it.

No more filters available!
I bought three of these in the past 18 months, and they work great. Unfortunately, they've stopped producing and selling the filters for them, rendering them all useless. Third party filters are absolute garbage. What a disappointing ripoff.

Quiet and unique style!
This unit is extremely quiet. I keep it on auto, and it works well. I haven’t noticed a significant improvement in my breathing or air quality personally, but it certainly can’t hurt. I may have been expecting something more substantial but I guess the air quality in my home wasn’t that bad to begin with. The sensor appears to work effectively, changing colours to indicate different air quality levels, I’ve seen it live when there’s smoke in the room from cooking. The unit feels a bit cheaper and more plastic than I expected for the price, but it does come with high-quality air filters from the looks of it. Lastly, it has a unique design and I actually quite like it in person.

Significant difference in my breathing
We've had this for about 5 months, during the season we were heating with a fireplace. It has noticeably improved my breathing and held up during those dusty months. It is easy to maintain with its smart features, turning on when air quality degrades (sensitive enough to detect cooking aerosols) and indicating when filters need cleaning. It is pretty quiet and when needed it can move a lot of air. I love it!

Best Air Purifier
I bought this after feeling underwhelmed by the cylindrical Levoit purifiers. They did collect dust (as evidenced by changing the filter), but often I would see particles drift right past them. This one is a workhorse, it's so powerful, it adapts to the amount of dust, it removes odor. It was a bit expensive, but I liked it so much, I bought a second one. The noise it makes is actually very pleasant, like a white noise hum. I don't see it as a negative, it's a great sound.

Filters don't last, and the company is totally unreliable
I've had the Airmega 250 for almost a year now, and I can say with certainty: the filters for these units last about 1-2 months in my household before they start emitting a bad smell and become unusable. Even when running on low settings and used infrequently. For a product with $70+ filters... that's preposterous. Worse, given that the company is falsely advertising their filter's longevity. The long version of my experience is this: when I first bought this unit, the filter stopped working and started to generate a bad smell after less than a month. I contacted Coway, and their customer service was abysmal - they wouldn't engage with the issue or even acknowledge that any problem existed at all, and offered no solutions or advice despite my repeated attempts to (politely) prompt them, asking if they knew what could've caused this, etc. The product supposedly has a warranty, but since Coway were doing nothing to honour it, I reached out to Amazon and they offered to replace the purifier. The second one lasted exactly two months before it also started emitting an awful smell. On top of that, the AQI didn't work properly on either unit. It barely registered any changes to the air, remaining constantly blue, and even randomly turned off altogether. I had tried to get help with that, before the filter issues with my first unit started, but unsurprisingly Coway didn't do anything then either. Their policy with regards to the AQI is (and this was stated in the extensive list of pre-written troubleshooting instructions they sent me) that if you can open the covered AQI lens on the unit, blow directly into it, and see the light change... then it's working fine. Regardless of any other problems you have with it, or whether it functions at all otherwise. If the light doesn't change, then they need to see a video of you going through all the troubleshooting steps before they'll consider a return. While it's possible for a single person to film themselves doing this, with difficulty, (and provided they're able to use a phone camera, have no mobility or space issues, etc) I would not say it's intuitive or something that's an option for everyone. This comes across as Coway looking for any excuse to prevent a return. I’ve since looked into other customer reviews, and found that many people who purchased this product have had similar experiences: both in finding that their unit has manufacturing defects, and in encountering avoidance and gaslighting behavior from customer service reps when they reach out about it. The fact that this filter is touted as lasting for 6 to 12 months (and is mostly advertised as year-long filter) while it’s lifespan has been barely a fraction of that in my experience... that feels like an outright scam. I have bought a number of replacement filters (always from Coway) just because I actually want to be able to use my purifier... and the result is always the same. They last a month on average. I would not recommend this product, or this company.
