This base filled with water is woefully under weighted to hold umbrella sturdily. It is not heavy enough to stay solidly on the ground and protect umbrella from tumbling over with a draft of wind. Even filled with water the base 'rocks' too much rather than hugs the ground not moving. Since we had already put the umbrella together and in the base - rather than go through the pain of returning it all - we placed 100 lb disc weights on the far side of the base to keep it stable. This shouldn't have to be done.

The base arrived on time undamaged. The quality looks great but hope it remains durable for many seasons. I hope to drain the water (and leave sand) and store umbrella+base during midwest winter. Given the large footprint on my patio, I looked at the in-ground mount which looks well-designed and sturdy, but i was afraid I'd hit a tree root. I'll note that the drain plug is well placed low on each of two chambers. Some people comment about leaks so I'll say coming from the factory I'd recommend checking tightness before filling. I've had no leaks. I do have two areas of concern. When installing the umbrella's base to this base's (thick enough?) stamped steel X, you'll want to be careful when installing bolts to not cross-thread or over tighten/strip. Since it was tight for my had to get them started, I'd recommend a short ratchet wrench with a 6" extension for a socket to speed things up. Second concern is how to drain water for wintering without losing sand everywhere. I'll ask that in Questions. Bottom line is buy this!

excellent base weight/ballast. Very sturdy. Frame is fairly thick steel. Umbrella bolts to solid steel frame. Some of the hardware looks to be stainless steel and is very robust. Three options for weight. Sand, water or sand+water. I went for sand+water. Messy but fairly easy to fill. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting sand in FIRST then add water. Seems to be very sturdy plastic and should last a long time. Not perfectly "level" but can rest fat beverages on it. I will probably look for a small table to fit over it so space not wasted. It has a fairly large "footprint".

Once you fill this with water or sand you will not be able to move it so position it before filling. This stand works fantastic with the purple leaf 10 foot cantilevered umbrella I bought. You can empty the stand easily with the removeable caps on the sides. It fills from the top.

When we purchased this stand and it arrived we felt there were parts missing and I was ready to return it. Two days later the umbrella arrived and all the parts needed were with the umbrella. What a relief. It was pretty easy to assemble, and is very sturdy. When it is full of water, it is difficult to move, but not impossible if you have a strong son or grandson to help you. Better yet make sure you put it where you want it in the first place. Enjoy your umbrella & stand, we are!
