Uncovering Norse Mythology: A Guide Into Norse Gods and Goddesses, Viking Warriors and Magical Creatures (Ancient History Books) Review: What I wish I had known - This book was self-published. It seems to be a printing of the author’s opinions and things he may have heard or Googled, which he had originally put into an online blog. He stated in the Legal Notice that his book may not be quoted nor paraphrased, and for good reason: much of it is inaccurate (if compared to the works of ancient mythographers - or even history, for that matter). Review: Good Introduction to Norse Mythology - It was what I expected. But being of Norwegian descent; I was already familiar with most of the contents. But its a good introduction to the Mythology and mindset of the Norse (or North) people as a whole.

What I wish I had known
This book was self-published. It seems to be a printing of the author’s opinions and things he may have heard or Googled, which he had originally put into an online blog. Good Introduction to Norse Mythology
It was what I expected. But being of Norwegian descent; I was already familiar with most of the contents. But its a good introduction to the Mythology and mindset of the Norse (or North) people as a whole.

A different take and good read
This is a good book that clearly was well researched. I do like the style and writing of this book, but I did disagree or dislike a few parts of the stories, which is only because I've read these stories somewhere else first, as of course the first way in most cases of a story is your "right way" Definitely worth the read, I'm sure this book will make its way into my repeat pile.

Junior college level essay turned into a book
The author seemed to be going for a cool, hip approach, which might appeal to younger viewers, but to this reader, it appears to be a mediocre, overblown essay cobbled together with some copy/pasting from Wikipedia (the reference indicates that it was used as a resource). The reference section was rather sparse, with most of the sources being online websites, most of which aren't behind paywalls. If I had to describe the author's writing style and tone in a few words, they'd be: glib, shallow, facile and sophomoric. The author spends far too much time talking about movies and comic books during the initial stages, making me wonder if this is actually a serious work or just an opportunistic cash grab. I’d recommend staying away from any books written by this author, unless the reader is specifically looking for this approach to learning about all things mythological. Better still, avoid any books from this publisher, since their selection feels more like what would be released from a vanity press and less like a legitimate research publication. Their editorial staff is obviously asleep at the wheel.

At times hard to follow, good information but just disorganized
A very educational book. It's very informative about the history of the Vikings and their culture. My only pet peeve about it would be, the set up of the book seems to drag on with the facts before actually explaining the Mythology of the Gods itself. It seems that the stories of the Gods and Goddesses are much more brief and vague than the facts given to the reader. I was sent a free book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Great introduction to Norse mythology!
I really enjoyed Uncovering Norse Mythology: A Guide Into Norse Gods and Goddesses, Viking Warriors and Magical Creatures. It was very well-written and easy to follow. I think even someone who's not a fan of mythology would appreciate the descriptions of the gods and goddesses contained within. While it would be impossible to be comprehensive in a book of this length, the descriptions were more than sufficient for the curious and I've no doubt fans of such modern-day film characters would seriously enjoy Uncovering Norse Mythology. I even found some of the information surprising... for example, the identity of Thor's mother. I especially liked the brief, entertaining stories about the various deities. In addition, the author's choice of photos was spot-on and the pronunciation guide at the end was quite helpful for some of the lesser-known names. Oh, and lest I forget, I also loved this review cited by Lucas Russo on the book's Amazon homepage: "'Another masterpiece by Lucas Russo.' My mom." Five stars to the author...and his mother!

confused
All the books I am getting the pages are wavy, why? I just ordered a bunch of different books from different people. and they are all weather damaged. The pages (both hard back and paperback) are wavy, which happens when the books are in a moist area too long. And two where left o u t s i d e in the rain, the d r i v e r never told me they where there. And the books where only protracted by a thin paper. But I do not recall which two books it was. But all the books the pages are wavy. The paper the books are made out of are cheap ad will not last long, if they are already deformed - all the books should be new. I have not yet read any of the books as I have heavy books sitting on top of them all trying to flatten the books

Poorly written. Repeats the same stories. Only cites web pages. Map and pictures are also from websites. Better info out there

I really enjoyed reading this this book. It is written in a way very easy to comprehend, especially if you’re just starting to learn about Norse Mythology while still not downplaying anything. The magical way it describes every character and every scenario made my love for Norse Mythology greater. Im also starting to get into Norse movies so having this book as a guide was key to understanding all the Gods, Goddesses and Vikings/warriors.

I stopped reading about half way through, after noticing numerous grammar/syntax mistakes. Checking the sources at the end of the book, it appears that the author documented himself on amateur websites. It also contains historical innacuracies.
