Can you tell me what the rise is for these shorts? I need a short with a longer rise…any recommendations?

These fit well for me at 5'5." Most shorts today hang to my knees. These fit well at about half thigh. They are loose enough through the seat and crotch. If you look at the crotch and legs, they are 5.5." The rise from the crotch to the waist appears to be about 9 inches.

are these good for hiking?

I wear them as all summer wear. Haven't been hiking, other than sidewalk walking. They are of decent build, all 4 pockets, zipper, button fly and belt loops all perform as expected. Material is the same thing as ordinary khakis. I'm not sure what you'd add specifically for heavy hiking. Denim maybe instead of kahakis. I'm not a hiker so that is about all I can give on it.

As all cotton clothing shrinks over time from washing, it is not very noticeable due to the elastic waist band. The length shrinkage is not problematic.

Size 38 what should i get please?

Go a size up! 38-40 or 40-42 I ordered a size down and I’m not able to wear them.
