Is there a cap at the tip of the threaded clamp to brace/stabilize, or is it a sharp tip that's meant to screw into the surface it's attached to?

I just unscrewed the clamp screw and the screw is flat like the end of a mini bolt. No cover on the tip. Can't recall all of the accessories it came with as I have mine screwed to the underside of my desk using the hole on the horizontal surface of the mount, so not using the clamp. Hope this helps.
