works well within typical dimmer limitations - can run lights very dimly, unlike others
This dimmer has a detent "click" which reassures you that it is completely off. I like that. This dimmer can run your light down to a very, extremely dim level. This one can do that, and the range of turning the knob to select the amount of dimming is a physically comfortable range - it gives you very good precise control. However: the very dim level is not always stable. Over the span of a few hours, the lights will continue to slowly dim further ending up completely out. Once you get used to this dimmer, you get a feel for what level will stay on all night, but still functions at about the night-light level. When you first turn it on, as you turn the knob to increase brightness, the lights will not turn on evenly from zero. At some point the brightness will "jump" from zero to a medium value. Only then can you turn the brightness back down to something very much dimmer. I think this also is not uncommon with ordinary dimmers. Other dimmers do not let you dim the lights down to very close to zero - they dim down only to a certain value, then click off. This one is not like that

Just what I needed!
I chose this module because the working was a bit longer and had a thinner body for more room for wires behind it. The device came with 2 different color knobs too. I was able to install and match the existing fixtures exactly. I checked in local home centers, could not find this, which is just what I needed. I installed for mom, she loves it, and can dial down her very bright dining room overhead lamp for proper mood lighting, but turn up when needed to read something. Thank you!

Works as expected.
Works great. This version is not a push-button on/off, but rather a rotary dial on/off with the fader.

Prefer push style
Didn't work with the CFL I had installed in the bathroom overhead light so I swithced back to incandescent and it works great. I thought I would like this style where you control the on/off by rotation (instead of push) but I am finding it annoying to have to constantly twist and adjust the light level instead of being able to quickly pop it on and off. I guess I did not realize how many times I am in and out of that room and I really find it annoying to have to use that slower twisting motion - so I am now replacing it with a push on/off rotary style. There is no defect though - so it is just a preference. I know with the push style I have to give up the more attractive 'low profile'. This style is probably fine for a light that is not being switched on/off many times in one day.

Geat for LED lights!
I put six 9.5w = 60w LED lights in the bathroom. When they were switched ON they looked like a flash bulb went off but then there were great. Then the switch started going bad. The LED bulbs were drawing a surge when they came on. I purchased this dimmer mainly so the LED's would come on slowly. That works. It took me about thirty minutes to install including finding circuit breakers etc. The installation of the dimmer itself was easy. The LED lights can be dimmed down to nearly nothing. When you turn them on you need to turn the dimmer up till suddenly the lights pop on, not at maximum intensity but somewhat high. From there you can turn them brighter or dim them down to nearly nothing. When dimming them you reach a very low level and suddenly they snap off. It would be nice if they came on and off more smoothly but that is the nature of a dimmer. The SCR's or TRIAC's don't come on or stay on with low current. Some years ago I had a similar dimmer and it worked about the same with tungsten bulbs. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. The price was great and I didn't need to travel out to Home Depot to buy it.

Review of Leviton 6602 and 2 other rotary dimmers with rotate on/off
I like light dimmers, and my favorite design is the old school rotary dimmer with the round knob. For 3-way applications, push on/off is required. However, for single-pole dimmers, I like the rotate on/off version. I like rotate on/off better because starting off at the dimmest setting prevents being blinded by bright light at night, and it is faster to get the desired light level since twisting on and setting the brightness is done all with one quick motion. Unfortunately, the rotate on/off dimmers are hard to find. The big hardware stores in my area do not carry them. Amazon to the rescue. I tried 3 rotary dimmers offered on Amazon in order to pick the one I like best. Important features to me include the following: 1. Feel of turning knob: The dimmer knob should have some friction so that it does not feel loose when turned. 2. On/off click: It should have a solid "click" when the knob turns to the on/off position. 3. Distance from knob to wall plate: The knob should be close to the wall plate. Push on/off dimmers must stick out to allow travel. They generally stick out about 5/16" (.31"). It is easier to distinguish a rotate on/off dimmer if it is close to the wall plate. 4. Mounting depth: Electric boxes tend to be full of inflexible wires, so reduced depth needed in the electric box is an advantage. 5. Price: An average house can have 5-10 dimmers, so the cost can add up. These are the 3 dimmers I tried. Good, with one annoyance.
Works well. Easy install. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the way you turn this switch off is to turn it all the way down, and then it clicks. Most I've seen are push for on/off, and rotate for dim. It's not a huge deal, but may be annoying for some. If you use this switch a lot, it's a pain to rotate it to turn it off, when a press would be more convenient.
