1984, Animal Farm (Set of 2 Books) George Orwell Review: Love the parallels - I love how Animal Farm addresses how power can affect even the most idealistic leader. The animals are wanting equality and this movement is lead by the pigs. As the pigs gain power they become more like the human that they revolted against. The use of animals to explore serious political issues allows for an engaging story that really makes you think. I found it to be easy to read and very interesting. Review: Always a great read. - The book set was exactly what I wanted. Arrived quickly.

Kindle version lacks most basic feature, but it is otherwise good
Two books in one for a great price. Both books should raise red flags regarding how our modern day society works... it worse than when these books were written. The Kindle version needs a little bit of work. It lacks a real TOC. So if you want to read the second book first, you have no clear way to jump to it. When tapping the TOC tab in the menu, you get 3 unlabled enties that all lead to the same page. Normally, kindle books have a TOC that lets you jump to any chapter and any book (if it is a set of books... I've purchased a few multi-book kindle editions).

Revive older books
Both books came wrapped in plastic wrap. They came on time. I would buy from this seller again. The revival of these older books allow younger readers knowledge, along with conversations that might have gone on the way side.

Superbly packaged classics
No idea if the books are any good but they were very precisely and beautifully wrapped, taped and labelled, I regret not taking photos first. Worth the ยฃ2.80 P&P cost alone. This actually made my day that there are still people around that take this pride in their work.

Astonishingly relevant in current times
I first encountered the names "Animal Farm" and "1984" not in a bookshop or a library, but while cramming Books and Authors for the General Awareness paper of competitive exams. Back then, these were just entries to memorise and move on. The thought of actually reading either of them never crossed my mind, partly because resources were limited and partly because the appetite for reading for pleasure simply wasn't there. Recently a book-lover colleague recommended 'Animal Farm' and I picked it up almost casually. At just 101 pages, I thought it would be a quick, light read. What I did not expect was to be left genuinely astonished by its content, its characters, and by how unsettlingly relevant an 80-year-old book would feel in the present day. The book tells the story of a group of farm animals who overthrow their human farmer in the name of equality and freedom .The story begins at Manor Farm, where an old boar named Old Major gathers the animals and shares a dream , a world where animals are free from human cruelty and exploitation. He teaches them a rousing song called "Beasts of England" and lays down a philosophy he calls Animalism. When he dies, the animals led by the pigs, who are the cleverest among them actually carry out the rebellion. And for a while, it feels like a triumph. They rename the place Animal Farm. They paint Seven Commandments on the barn wall, the most celebrated of which is "All animals are equal." There is hope in the air. There is a sense that something genuinely new has begun. But it does not last. A quiet but deeply manipulative pig named Napoleon gradually edges out Snowball, a visionary leader who dreamed of building a better farm for everyone. Napoleon does this not through argument or merit, but through fear unleashing a pack of fierce, loyal dogs to chase Snowball away. From that point, the story becomes a slow, painful dismantling of everything the rebellion stood for. The pigs move into the farmhouse. They sleep in beds. They drink alcohol. And each time they cross a line they once swore never to cross, the commandments on the barn wall are quietly, cleverly rewritten to justify it. By the end, the famous declaration of equality has been twisted into something grotesque: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." Reading this, I kept asking myself โ have I seen this before? Have I felt this before? It had the quality of something I could only describe as dรฉjร vu. The story felt less like fiction and more like a mirror being held up to the world around us. Napoleon, the main architect of this betrayal, bears an eerie resemblance to certain figures in today's political landscape โ figures who began as voices of change and slowly became the very thing they once opposed. I will leave it there. The book's takeaways are many, and they stay long after the last page: 1. Power corrupts absolutely. 2. Facts can be manipulated to control the masses. 3. Blind loyalty leads to exploitation. 4. A compliant, uneducated populace is easily manipulated. 5. Words can be redefined to justify injustice. 6. Fear and division are tools to maintain power. 7. The working class can be exploited through its own virtues ,its sincerity and willingness to work hard. 8. Intellectuals can be co-opted or silenced. 9. Ideals are rarely destroyed openly โ they are eroded, quietly, one small compromise at a time. 10. Revolution is most often betrayed not by outsiders, but from within. If I were to rate this book, it would be a firm 10 out of 10. And now, I am reaching for Orwell's other masterpiece '1984' published in 1949.
