No - not intended for magic, just costume for things like dance and theatre.

How well does this hold up to regular use of collapsing and opening?

It didn’t hold up very well for my 11 year old. It has two spring mechanisms in the side, and if it is collapsed with uneven pressure, one can easily break.

Can this hat be collapsed by sitting on it? If so, would it last many occasions of being sat on?

It's pretty sturdy, but of course it would depend on the weight of the person sitting on it. If they drop too hard, or weight a lot, it could possibly damage the spring mechanism. Overall, it's a very durable hat, but that's a little "outside the box," in terms of performance.
